Second hospital job and quick cert question...

Nursing Students Technicians

Published

Hi, so currently a Tech but no Cert to my name. I work on a Psych unit, but have training with phlebotomy, EKGs, ADLS, Vitals, and Glucose checks. Also do charting, interview patient's, and facilitate groups.

I am wanting to get a second job mostly at night. Torn between EMT-B or Pharmacy Tech job. I am going to look when I work tonight what openings they have the most at work.

My thought process is two things right now. If my wife gets into nursing school like to work second job to help cover bills. If my wife doesn't then I am applying for an LPN progr and be easier if I can work night's since right now I work 3 different shifts.

Out of the 2 what do you think should I choose? Which do you think offer more job opportunities?

Appreciate the insight.

Specializes in RETIRED Cath Lab/Cardiology/Radiology.

Where are the openings?

What would someone working as an EMT-B at your facility do?

What would a Pharm Tech do?

Is there a pay difference?

Which might have the most flexibility for you if family plans alter?

Which is most interesting to you, and/or would most help develop or maintain skills?

Would getting certified help you at all?

So researched jobs at my work Pharmacy Tech would open a few job opportunities. Now EMT does open some opportunities, but not as much as expected. Only found 1 at my current job.

Now I could go for my CNA cert. Was bummed a State ER department was looking for a tech who has experience in an acute hospital and CPI skills. The pay was out of this world $45K and night's. Didn't get the job due to not having my CNA cert.

Been on the fence getting my CNA cert because it's not transferable to another State and the CNA program is not very flexible.
