Seattle University Transfer 2018

Nursing Students School Programs

Hello!

Is anyone applying as a transfer next Fall?

All I ever wanted is su honestly

Has there been any updates to the waitlist as far as anyone knows? I've been emailing people and not hearing things back...

I know the people who have received acceptance have until May 20th to secure their spot so honestly I am not sure about what happens after that but I can ask when I go to the orientation. In May

Admissions told me that accepted students have until May 4th to secure their spot. After that, it takes about two weeks to go through everyone again. So expect not to hear anything until late May

Sorry may 20th is orientation your correct May 4th sorry about that

Hi everyone! I'm wishing the best for the fall 2018 cohort! I'm currently a pre nursing student at OC in Washington and am hoping to transfer to Seattle U. It's been my dream school for so long now. If anyone has any tips for how to better my chances and for living situations as a transfer student it'd be greatly appreciated! I have a 3.68 cumulative GPA and 3.78 prereq GPA. I have less than a full year of nursing assistant/medication assistant experience. Any advice helps!!

Hi hdak, I will try to help as much as I can with advice, but I can't say much about living situations :). Here it goes. I have a similar GPA to you- 3.8cumulative and 3.7ish prerequisites however I had very little experience. I only had 240hours of volunteering (regular + joined leadership), which is quite little compared to others. On top of that, being under 18 at the time made it very hard to do a lot as a volunteer. I am 18 now but finished all my prereqs, associates, etc by the time I applied. Considering that, there were a lot of people who had a plenty more of experience, I deffinitely think Seattle U asks "how much has the person accomplished" relative to their age or status (did you go back to school with three kids, etc), as well as judge greatly on ambition. Does this make sense? Sorry for rambling :). Asides from this, I think that the interview had a lot more weight than most of us think. My resume isn't impressive but my interview went very well which I think became a main factor. For advice, be sure to create conversation with the instructors and ask lots of questions:). None of my interview answers were heavily academic based nor did I even speak very seriously throughout; I answered purely on a light-toned "get to know me" status. However, I did make sure to relate it back to my resume a bit and emphasize on accomplishments. This lead the interview on a lot of tangents and I was actually able to learn quite a bit about the professors as well. I believe all of those things played major roles in my acceptance :). Try to personalize your essay as much as possible. It is tricky, but try to make yourself stand out and avoid clichés. Best of luck! I'm sure other people will be happy to reflect on their experience and provide advice as well:).

Hi hdak! Good luck with your continuing studies and I hope you have a good shot at getting in! I believe a large part of why I got in was my grade trend and how I talked about my experience working with patients. On my transcript is shows all As and then a few Bs before the summer of 2016. Then I got a C in anatomy that summer! I was absolutely devastated and thought my chances of getting into any BSN program were gone! So, I buckled down and worked my butt off. Every single class after that summer I got an A in, including Physio and Microbio. I know in the online info session they mention that they really look at your grade trend, so I like to think my improvement was a large reason for my acceptance.

Additionally, I'm only an intern/volunteer at a hospital and had about 400+ hours over the course a year and a half when I applied. I believe what made me stand out was using my experiences with patients in my essays and conveying why those experiences confirmed I wanted to be a nurse/what I got out of those specific experiences. So, make sure you're really getting everything you can out of your job, and maybe even write down those unique experiences so you can write about them later! When I had my interview, there was an opportunity for me to really go into depth about what I did as an intern at the hospital and they really seemed impressed with how much I was able to do. My impression is that explaining that bit on my resume really enforced my experience because they didn't seem to realize I could do as much as I did when just glancing at my resume. So, make sure to emphasize points that you think make you really stand out if you get to the interview portion!

Sorry for the long response, but I really hope this helped! Good luck with your studies!

This is all so helpful!!! Thank you so much for the tips and insight!

Did anyone from the waitlist get accepted? since decision day and pay has passed

Hi guys! I just wanted to let you all know I just now created a Facebook page for our class. You can search "Seattle University Nursing Transfer Cohort 2021" to find it and join. Let me know if any of you are also willing to be admins!

Hello everyone!

I am having a lot of anxiety about the admission process.

Previously have a BA in Communications, GPA 3.2.

Still need Stats/Chem/Micro. I would say my prereq GPA is a 3.5.

I work at Harborview as a CNA, and have been at several facilties in the area. As well as 2 hospitals in Southern CA & a CA hospice facility.

Long story short, I want to be an RN because I have an autoimmune disease. I had an awesome care team that got me back on the path to remission. It took a few years of soul searching to figure out that I am called to be a nurse. Now that I am stronger again physically, I want to be able to give back to patients.

If I get As in Stats/Chem/Micro, do you think I have a chance of getting in? Plan on applying at the end of this year, with courses still in progress. Hopefully that won't impact my admission decision either.

Congrats to all, reading these posts really push me to keep going. Hopefully someone can answer my questions out there. Thank you in advanced.
