I just got accepted to Seattle University's APNI program and was wondering if any of my fellow future classmates were interested in starting a thread of our own.
We are about to embark on an amazing, stressful and exciting venture--June is just around the corner!
We may as well start getting to know each other now.
When I initially decided to apply to SU I found very little on allnurses, so I'm hoping this thread will also be a place where prospective APNI's can post and get some advice from us . . . eventually
So, if anyone is interested in introducing themselves I'd love to hear from you.
I look forward to meeting everyone at orientation in June
Any advice from current students is greatly appreciated too!
hey guys! i have great news! please read the following email that i sent to sabrina! i hope this will decrease your anxiety :-)
hello sabrina,
i called cascade healthcare services to inquire about the bls for healthcare providers and asked if they could give the apni 2009 cohort a discount on their cpr class and they said that they would be more than happy to help su con students out! hence, instead of $60.00 they will charge the apni 2009 cohort $45.00!
i have already touched base with lesley huffman to ask if this would suffice and she said yes! all we have to do is call cascade healthcare services and tell them that we're from the seattle university college of nursing, advanced practice nursing immersion program 2009 and they'll get the discounted price! would it be possible for you to spread this great news to my fellow classmates?
please tell them to ask for sarah or elise at 206-213-3116 and yes, all of the instructors are certified by the american heart association.
and they can pick whichever date is most convenient for them at http://www.chealthcare.com/courses/search_results.cfm?items=101
ps. on monday cascade healthcare services will also have a private online portal for su con apni 2009 that we can register in. i will send that website information on monday. i hope this will help my classmates :-)
thanks sabrina!
Fantastic work, Karla! I had just looked at the AHA website and was gearing up to drive to Everett, as that was the nearest location they had listed. I'm so glad that you did this homework for us!
I would love to do this class with some of you - is there anyone else that would be interested in doing and Tuesday or Thursday class during the day? I'm eager to get it checked off the list, but I would like even more to get to take the class with someone from the cohort!
To Dana and all interested in getting together May 15-16th:
I could do Friday the 15th if it's better for you - meaning that more of you would be able to get together. I'm still totally open as to location and time. Anyone interested? It would be great to know a little ahead of time so we can plan around it.
Thanks all! See you soon... :)
Hi everyone!
It sounds like there's going to be a gather the weekend of May 15th/16th. Unfortunately I can't make it as I'll be out of town for a bachelorette party, but I was thinking of doing another one either at the end of May (29th-31st) for another option if people aren't in town/can't make it.
Someone else (Janine?) had mentioned getting together around June 13th and I think that's a great plan too! That way it's much closer to orientation and everyone should (theoretically) be in Seattle at that point. Hopefully it'll be nice out if we have it at someone's house. Or we could do a potluck/BBQ at Golden Gardens, the Olympic Sculpture Park, or some such place...wheather permitting, naturally. =)
I hope everyone's doing well and not drowning under all this information being sent our way!
Hey guys. This is the online portal specifically for SU CON (APNI 2009) Students. Please read Don's email. Thanks!
Hello Karla,
Below, please find the link to the web based registration portal that will
allow your students to register at any of our frequently held HCP CPR
courses around the region at the reduced rate of $45. This link contains
instructions as well as our contact information at the Training Center
should any of the students have questions, need assistance with
registration, etc. Courses will continue to be added over the course of the
next several days, and also as additional courses are added regularly.
Please feel free to send, attach, or distribute this link to your students
as needed. Thank you for choosing Cascade to assist with your training needs
and please let us know if there is anything else we can do to assist you.

Hi!
Sorry to join so late but I wanted to introduce myself and invite all of you to my home for the second meet and greet. I will be out of town until the day before orientation except for between June 3 and June 9. I live near the University Village in Laurelhurst so if this is a good central location I would love to have all of you over. Let me know if any of these dates work for you. I look forward to meeting all of you soon!

Hi ladies and gents,
Just to let you know, the UW Health Sciences Bookstore is having an in-store wide 20% off sales event this Saturday, May 30th, from 12pm-5pm.
For those (like me) who haven't gotten a scope yet, it should be a pretty good deal. I'm gonna check it out and see if the prices are comparable to those online, and I will ideally be able to use my Alumni 10% off in addition to the 20% sale.
Let me know if anyone wants to check it out with me!

Hi there! I'll be in town the weekend of the 16th and would love to get together with whoever can make it. It seems like a few people mentioned being gone from the 16th on. Do you think if we plan on Friday, 5/15, more folks could make it? Someone also mentioned inviting Sabrina, and I'm thinking she might be available on Friday night after work. I'm open to either night but need to go before the Mariners game on Saturday. It starts at 7:10.
I also have an iTouch and am glad to know it will work as a PDA. I was concerned about needing internet access because I can only use its browser in wireless hotspot areas. Based on Murphy's response, it doesn't sound like we'll need internet access at clinical sites. That was my concern about using the iTouch vs. a phone pda with a service plan. I'm also not sure I want to lug around both a cell phone and pda but like the Itouch's each of use and bigger screen.
The last cohort had a website I stumbled upon a few months ago, http://groups.google.com/group/su_apni . There was a post about the amount of printing required summer quarter, up to 3 hours a week. It sounds like faculty may have addressed this for us and may provide slides (not sure where I read that). If they don't, it was suggested we bring a laptop to take notes, rather than printing all the overheads before classes. I've always been a pen and paper person, but am trying to adapt to using my laptop for note taking and think it may help me stay better organized. If they provide hard copies of overheads so we don't have to spend hours printing in the computer lab each week, then a laptop wouldn't be as essential. Maybe another question for faculty or Sabrina. ???
