Seattle University-APNI 2017 applicants

Published

Hey!

Like so many before me, I thought I would start a thread for those applying to the Advanced Practice Nursing Immersion program at Seattle University set to begin summer 2017. I am an SU alumni who double majored in Psychology and Interdisciplinary Liberal Studies. Thinking I wanted to pursue a PhD/PsyD in developmental psychology I took a position as a volunteer research assistant at the Center For Child and Family Well-Being at the University of Washington and have been doing work for them on various research projects for the past year and a half. I also volunteered for two years in undergrad at Childhaven with at risk children and families. My first rounds of psych PhD applications completely destroyed my soul (I may be exaggerating). In the aftermath of numerous rejection emails, I continued research, but ultimately decided that it was too sterile for me. Although the study I was assisting on worked specifically with those in underserved communities, I felt that I needed to be more hands on/directly engaged with their needs rather than conducting data collections and sending them on their way. I have been eyeing out Seattle U's Family Psychiatric Mental Health DNP specialization (yes, they have made the full switch over to the DNP and I believe we will be the first cohort accepted into it). I have been in touch with Ann Hirsch, one of the program directors, and she told me that they tend to look at the GPA from your last two years of undergrad (90 credits quarter/60 semester) and would like to see at least a 300 on the GRE with a score of 4-4.5 on the writing portion. She recommended that I make an appointment to see the head of the psych track so she can answer more of my questions about the program. Dr. Hirsch told me that it sounds like I'm going to be a very strong applicant, but the thought of applying to another doctorate program completely terrifies me. ANY and ALL advice from ANYONE would be greatly appreciated. I'm hoping I'll glean some tips and support from this forum as I know firsthand that applying to any graduate program is an extremely frustrating and stressful process.

Dang!

sorry to Hear that!

I would have just gone to Yale!

Received notification as waitlisted, however I had my interview for the public health route February 4th. Hopefully, there's still a chance *fingers crossed*

3.75 undergrad psych/philosophy double, 3.9 in the last two years

337 gre, 169 verbal (99th percentile), 168 quantitative (95th)

Completed an honors thesis on alcohol abuse (Magna Cum Laude)

Virtually no healthcare experience though.

Waitlisted for pmhnp, so I'm hoping they are going to be pulling from the list at some point! Ranking would be nice too. Hopefully included in the letter...

Hi everybody!

Congratulations to those accepted and to everyone else for working so hard on this very competitive program! I've been lurking, but thought I'd join in. I was interviewed and waitlisted for FNP. I have all the same questions as everyone else, and no answers, sorry!

It's a relief to get an answer, though. As much as I tried I could not stop thinking about the decision. SU is my #1 choice, so I'm getting ready for my application this year. If anybody wants to chat about next steps or work on the process together, let me know! I'd appreciate any input. For those that have been accepted, will you message me or email me any input or advice you have?

Good luck on all your endeavors! Thanks to the people that have been vocal on this forum, it's been nerve-wracking, but also helpful.

I just spoke with school of nursing for clarification on the waitlist.

For the CNM track specifically they only accepted 10 people and interviewed 25. It was my understanding that those who were interviewed are higher on the waitlist.

They will not tell you your specific number on the waitlist as it is always moving, she was vague with me about my position on the waitlist.

She said that we should hear more within the next couple of weeks. Those that were accepted were given 2 weeks to accept or decline. The best way to know if we have come off the waitlist is to check the apptracker.

Futuremiddwife44-So I know you asked specifically about CNM but I assume it's a similar process for all tracks. Did they say anything about how many total were waitlisted since they waitlisted some who did not interview? Thanks for the information!

I didn't ask how many total where on the list, sorry.

For those of you that are waiting I would totally recommend calling graduate admissions and asking, every time I have called with a question they have been super friendly and helpful. I know that in previous years people had an idea of their positions on the waitlist. I also remember reading on a previous year's forum that "about half of the people in the track were admitted and half from the waitlist" not sure which track but definitely stay positive because the waitlist does move. Best of luck to everyone!

Funny you say that... the grad school wrote me back saying they really cant release any information about wait list positons nor any information about how we were evaluated.

I called the nursing program directly and talked to the program coordinator and she was very helpful. She couldn't tell me my exact position but she gave me a lot of information about the waitlist and about acceptances so far.

Can you please share what you've learned about their waitlist?
