Is anyone applying to Seattle University's APNI program for summer 2014 start? I know there are a few very useful threads from past years. I'm gearing up and getting a bit anxious!
I am looking at some of the older threads (previous years) to see if I can find an answer, but has anyone come across a page limit for the essay? I don't see it anywhere on their website or in the application packet.
I just submitted my application to PLU yesterday and Seattle University is next on my list. I haven't seen anything about info sessions there - really wish there was one. I am curious what their plans because of the DNP issue.
I will be applying to the FNP. Not sure if I have any shot at it all. My BA is in English. I work as a CNA and I am finishing up EMT-B training right now as well.

I emailed admissions about the essay. Here's what they said. I had mine at 3 pages double spaced.
"The application asks you to address your personal and professional goals. You should be clear about how your career goals fit with your selected program of study, and why you chose Seattle University's Immersion program. Relate your personal and professional goals to the University and College of Nursing mission. Use good language arts skills to demonstrate your writing ability. There is no specific length- but it's preferable to keep it to 2-3 pages max. You will want to discuss why Seattle U, your experience, why adv practice nursing and how the program would help with your professional goals."
BTW there is no DNP issue. 2015 is just a recommendation and will not change anything. The MSN will still grant you licensure, just like the ADN still gets you the RN.
Excellent, thanks! My essay for PLU was almost 4 pages (their max), but I addressed a lot of things specific to PLU so I think 3 or less should be doable.
I haven't looked into the DNP issue as much as I should, I suppose, just that I had heard/read it was recommended, and that some places (PLU mentioned it explicitly in their info session) were changing their programs because of it. It is not possibly becoming a requirement? I will do more research, but I was wondering since obviously with a 2014 start, we wouldn't be finished until after 2015.
Really? I have been struggling with it this week. At first I wrote a personal statement, but I looked into "letter of intent" more and found it's not uncommon for a university to ask for that instead. So, I have been trying to craft more as a letter of intent like examples I have found.
If I do go with the letter format, I think I know who to address it to after all.
Why would they call it a letter of intent if that is not what they want?
Yes - I was looking over the threads from previous years earlier this week. It seems like they started to notify people about interviews late January to mid February, and interviews took place mid-February into early March.
Some people had phone interviews if they were far away.
Many of the earlier notifications seemed to go to anyone NOT choosing FNP.
The turnaround between being invited to interview to the actual interview was about two weeks, and between interview and acceptance/rejection, about a week.
At least, that is what I could glean from the threads...
