SDSU Nursing Program

Hi All,

I am just starting pre-req's for nursing school and am pretty scared but excited to be doing it! I wanted to know if anyone knows anything about SDSU's nursing program and how hard it is to get in? I am only in my first year of college and have completed some GE courses, but not a lot. I didn't know if you had to be an SDSU undergrad already in order to get into SDSU nursing, or if they except transfer students from local community colleges. I heard GPA is the main factor and that they go by the points system?? If I did all of my pre-req's at a junior college, could I still go to SDSU for nursing school?

Thanks

I highly recommend you attending one of their information sessions (you can find schedule here: http://nursing.sdsu.edu/advising-appt.php), because they break everything down to you then. The last couple times I went, I was told that they receive about 300-400 applications per semester, and they've taken 110 before, but starting Fall 2009 they are reducing it to 100 admissions.

You can go either route. The actual university will only accept upper-division transfer students, so you have to have at least 60 transferable units, and as long as you have that you can apply to the university ahead of time, and when you're finished with prereqs you can put in an application for the nursing school. Or you can transfer and apply to nursing school at the same time. But keep in mind though that the university will only take applications for Fall for transfer students, but the nursing school takes applications for Fall and Spring. BUT you have to already be accepted, by the university OR applying to the university simultaneously in order to be accepted by the nursing school.

You can take a look at their admisssion criteria here: http://nursing.sdsu.edu/miscfiles/programsbs-criteria.pdf

That's fine--just make sure you are taking the equivalent courses. You can find out what you need by school by visiting the school website under TAP (https://sunspot.sdsu.edu/pubred/!tap.disp).
