Starting Pre-reqs and Getting Nervous
I am in the same boat...sort of. I have been out of high school for 12 years and have taken college courses here and there and have done well. I just didn't have any direction on what career I wanted until now. I am DEATHLY afraid of these pre-req's and how hard I think they are going to be, which is why I have put off doing them for 9 years! 9 whole years I have thought about being a nurse and I've just been afraid to take that first step. You will never know if you "can do it" unless you try and the guilt you will have later for "coulda woulda shoulda" will feel worse. Just go for it and focus, get tutors if you think that will help. You have to believe in yourself and you have to overcome the FEAR of it. That is all it is. If I can do , so can you! Good luck

Grossmont nursing program, san diego..what should I expect?
Hi SDMAMMA, Can you explain the Scripps grant program? I have no idea what that is and reading through these threads only gave me a little more insight? I will do whatever I can to get into nursing school sooner, and if that means having a better chance by working at Scripps, I will do it. THanks for your help

norcal vs socal pay & living expenses
I grew up in the Bay Area and then have lived in LA and San Diego for the last 8 years. They are the same in cost of living. You pay less to live in nastier areas and you pay more to live in nicer areas. I think the job market in San Diego sucks in my opinion, but I think its not too far behind other areas in Norcal or Socal. You need to go off of where you feel most at home and what scenery and weather you like more. Hope that helps!

SDSU nursing program?
Hi All, I am just starting pre-req's for nursing school and am pretty scared but excited to be doing it! I wanted to know if anyone knows anything about SDSU's nursing program and how hard it is to get in? I am only in my first year of college and have completed some GE courses, but not a lot. I didn't know if you had to be an SDSU undergrad already in order to get into SDSU nursing, or if they except transfer students from local community colleges. I heard GPA is the main factor and that they go by the points system?? If I did all of my pre-req's at a junior college, could I still go to SDSU for nursing school? Thanks

Getting into Nursing after 10 years of thinking about it!
Thanks for the encouragement. I am so dreading this experience, but am sure it will be worth it once I am done. I look at people like you who have kids and think to myself, yes I can do this....and I don't even have kids. Kudos to you!

Best ADN programs in the Bay Area/Northern CA??
Hi All, What are the easiest ADN programs to get into in the Bay Area? In San Diego, the wait lists are way too long. Anyone know of any schools that don't have huge wait lists?

New travel nurse - Los Angeles
I used to work for the largest travel nursing staffing firm (as a corporate employee) and I am excited for you! I used to help nurses with all of the logistics on their assignments. I am now a nursing student, go figure. I currently live in LA and UCLA and Cedars are both exceptional facilities. Any neighborhoods near West LA, Westwood, Brentwood, Santa Monica..etc are the best places to live. Also, the valley isn't a bad idea either for more affordable housing, like Sherman Oaks and Studio City. Both cities are not far from either hospital. I know a lot about Travel Nursing, so ask any questions you may have.

Getting into Nursing after 10 years of thinking about it!
Hi All, I am 29 and have decided to go into nursing after 10 years of being too afraid to go for it! I'm still afraid but I'm wanting to do something good with my life and I want a challenging career where I can't get bored. I still don't know for sure if I will really love it, but its worth a shot. So here is where I stand... I graduated high school in 97' and have only taken some GE college courses...none relating to nursing. I am starting the pre-requisites slowly, but it seems the pre-req's are going to take around 2 or 3 years before I even start nursing school! I have to do Elementary Algebra since I haven't taken Math in 12 years, and that is just so I can get into Chemistry, but before that I have to take a general biology class, then Microbiology, then A & P, and I think even English, Sociology and Humanities. I'm already overwhelmed that it's going to take forever since people keep saying to only take one science prereq at a time. I am worried about how I will do nursing school and work at the same time. I know I will need to work at least 1 or 2 days a week, but I don't think I could handle more than that AND school at the same time. I envy those people who can handle it all. I'm nervous because I have a lot of bills and would be taking out a lot of money in loans to make up the difference from not working full time anymore in my Marketing job (I don't have a husband or boyfriend to fall back on). Any advice??
