SCVMC Clinical Nurse I

Published

Has anyone applied to Santa Clara Valley Medical Center Clinical Nurse I role? I received an email with ranking and percentage. However, I don't know what any of that means and I cannot find anything online.

Each facility seems to have a different hiring process. I was invited to two one as "Extra-Help Clinical Nurse I @ SCVMC" and "Clinical Nurse I @ Oconnor"

SCVMC is an onsite interview while O'connor's is via online interview

Also SCVMC requires 2 references to be filled out and emailed to them from preference of a manager prior to the interview whereas Oconnor did not.

It is safe to assume that only hiring managers or manager aids will be present for each separate facility

Hi @pearjuice0101

so I’m at OCH

on-site interview with unit Managers Requiring two references once job was offered.

I’ve had staff nurses, charge and managers at my interviews.

Okay. So it totally depends then.

I was offered a position.  It looks like the manager said staff self schedule themselves and weekends are not required.

I'm still deciding on if I should take the position. It is very difficult to understand their benefit package posted on the website.

Also, I did get the reference form to get signed after the interview.

@Heaven27 congrats! ?  what type of questions do they normally ask? is it all behavioral questions or are there clinical scenarios as well?

Hello,

For the most part, the questions asked were follow-up questions to things I said about myself , interest, and experiences.

I was asked questions about what makes a good nurse, how do I know I provided good bedside care and quality, what are ways I ensure safety of the patient, and my why progressive care vs other critical care areas

No situational, but I am already a nurse in the inpatient setting, so I think they had a good feeling that I would do well in that area. It is only 30 minutes.

Specializes in SICU, TICU, CVICU.

So basically all that @Heaven27 except I’m not sure what “no real pay” means. You will be paid. There’s a coded pay schedule on the county you can look at to see what your pay will be.

this position is best for new grads with little to no experience in acute settings. And it depends on the department whether getting a coded position is tricky or not. For example my department it supposed to have MANY extra shifts available so even after my 13 week orientation I am almost guaranteed full time hours. And it’s easier to get a coded position when you have passed their orientation program.

ask me any questions Im currently in their extra help new grad orientation

Where do you find the current wage tables?  What is the apx hourly pay for  the "extra help" role?

Hi Nancy,

Can you clarify how training, orientation and responsibilities works for the extra help position?

A manager mentioned that the Extra Help position will start in July and then I will join the new grad program that starts September. They said I will always be working alongside someone. I'm waiting for paperwork but just wanted insider knowledge.

I don't know if you started your position right when the new grad training started or if you were offered a start date prior.

Thank you in advance!

Hello! Just curious if any of you have tips on training and how you're training was?

Hi. I can answer specific questions. My training was good! I like their training style it is innovative and much easier for a new grad to acclimate to.

Aww, thank you! I have quite a bit LOL:

Were the classes held on zoom or an actual classroom? Was it 8hours for 5 days (full time)? Did it feel enough for you?

What unit are you on?

How were the preceptors?

Did they train you on all shifts or just mainly one?

If you're on your own now, did they give you much less critical patients or less patients to start with?
