scrubs and emt pants

Published

A while back I found two pairs of white EMT pants for nursing school. They were very comfortable and had TONS of pockets. That company stopped stocking them in white. But I suppose you could the regular old EMT/paramedic pants in blue or grey and wear them on the floor without a problem, and wear Dove Apparel scrub tops (totally made for men). Actually Dove Apparel makes pants and tops now that I think of it. They are pricey, and high end, but it's worth it. It's a small woman-owned business in San Diego which I believe makes them in the USA.

"The negative thing is that they are darn expensive for what they are, you are basically paying for fashion and extra pockets"

I'd love to get away with wearing EMT pants or something similar. That's what I dislike most about the idea of nursing school - the dress code. I hate scrubs. I also like pockets and a belt.

It's got nothing to do with a professional image.

I've been polishing boots and brass as well as pressing and lint rolling uniforms for years so I prefer something that isn't akin to a pair of pajamas.

haha I'm guessing you were military. I remember those chores.

These EMT pants had elastic waist, but not too tight, and a drawstring. They were as comfortable as fatigues. Too bad they stopped making them, but you might find them again. (I just went and read the label which says Exclusive Designs, "Scrub Stuff". My nursing program let people choose anything as long as it was clean, pressed and white. Some schools are bigger on "uniformity". Some clinical instructors will let 2nd year students drift a little. They'll tell you what you can do. I don't see why wearing a professional-looking pair of EMT pants would be a problem after nursing school, either, and I probably will. There are some that don't look like military fatigues that are hardly noticeable. Obviously you don't want to look like a commando infiltrating the unit- but we need do indeed need those pockets. One thing to remember from the military is that if people get latitude there's always one or two guys who push the limit and end up ruining it for everyone because they attract the attention of the higher ups.

oh i would love if i could wear white EMT pants... i love having multiple pockets!

Fortunately, I'm not going to be subjected to white, lol. They'll have us wearing navy blue.

Great then you can invest in scrubs that you can use later after school.

5.11 Tactical also makes some nice EMS Taclite 5.0 pants in Navy Blue, these would pass if combined with a matching Navy Blue scrub top from Dove or Cherokee or whatever you choose.

After nursing school, it might make sense to find some sort of fanny pack to carry all your stuff in, so you won't have to transplant everything from dirty scrubs to clean scrubs every night when you go home- just clean your fanny pack. I saw a medic fanny pack in navy blue on some website. Then you could use any scrubs you want, even the very cheap pocketless scrubs, since all your stuff would be in the fanny pack. Or if you are really nuts about pockets, you could combine the tactical pants, Dove top, and fanny pack. You'd be a walking supply closet at that point. Hey, maybe that's not a bad thing...
