Scott and White

does anyone have any feed back on working for scott and white? i've only just recently even heard of them (i'm new to the area) . i've never worked in a teaching hospital.

I worked at the College Station clinic for a little over a year (not as a nurse though). Scott and White is honestly a very good organization but it is a HMO. You mostly deal with people who work for the state and don't have any other healthcare options but S&W (since its one of the only major health care providers in central Tx) I know they were really putting a lot of $$ into expansions and upgrades at the Temple facilities and they are very good at offering tuition assistance and benefit perks to its employees. Sorry I cannot be more help to you, as I am not a nurse yet, but I hope this helps a little.

I currently work in the ER at Scott and White and have been a Scott and White patient since birth. The hospital has a very well respected reputation throught the entire state. In fact, I had a pt who drove from Brownwood (approx 4 hour drive) to be seen in the ER (she was discharged home, lol). They are also the teaching hospital for Texas A&M School of Medicine. Working in a teaching hospital can be a great learning experience. There are many times that I learn something new because I happened to be at the bedside while the attending was teaching the resident. That being said, it is a human institution , and like all hospitals has the same problems with staffing, overcrowding, administration, etc. They do offer good benefits and they have (in my opinion) one of the best health plans. It is hospital owned and the majority of the board are actual practicing MDs.
