  1. does anyone have any feed back on working for scott and white? i've only just recently even heard of them (i'm new to the area) . i've never worked in a teaching hospital. all input is welcome. thanks!
  2. I too work for Baptist Health...several Magnet hospitals in the system, BTW. All the travelers I run into LOVE being here.. they love the system and they love South Florida. Guess i's a great place to be if it's February and you are single, young and from East Cupcake.

What are your Critical Care visiting hours? Do you enforce them? Do visitors respect them? Where I work the posted hours are 10:30a-1:00; 4:30-6:30 and 8:30-10:30. Pretty liberal , I think. Gives the A.M crew time to get organized and the night staff time to do assessments. Obviously we don't ask the families of imminently terminal patients to leave. I think we are quite liberal. We are in an area where, culturally, if one's third cousin twice removed does not come to visit then disrespect is shown. Personally I don't like to have family in while I am doing an initial assessment because I feel like they speak for the patient... "are you cold" (yes, the visitor is cold) "Are you having pain?" (Mami MUST be having pain). People become insulted when they realize they cannot spend the night with their loved one (I do NOT mean someone who is near death). Is this a problem for you? How do you or your unit or your managers handle it?

  5. OOo I know-- We were out there in February and feel as if our quality of life is DEFINITELY improving!! We are very excited!!
  6. I chose critical care after several years work experience on a heavy duty telemetry floor. Personally, I felt it to be the next step for me. Having said that I have to admit my lack of good med-surg experience did nothing for my self confidence in the beginning--despite the fact I was OLDER than the average bear,a fast learner and had a professional approach to things. I don't think new grads should go immediately into CC, altho I also realize the shortage we have might override what I personally think. Some new grads acclimate well- for others it's not what their self confidence needs at this point in their career.
  7. that's what i was afraid of...altho everything does seem less expensive than what i am used to (i doubt the lack of pay makes up for it tho) thanks for your response.
  8. I am moving from South Florida to Georgetown. I have 15 years SICU experience. I am making $35/hr day shift; $7/hr differential on night shift. What can I expect in the Georgetown (Austin) area??
