Scoring On Excelsior Practice Exams

Published

I have a question. I'm scheduled to take my Health & Safety exam really soon and I'm thinking about pushing it back due to the follwing:

1. I scored a 64 the first time I took it with out reviewing and got a 50 the second time after reviewing.

2. I feel I'm not ready due to the above scores.

I socred a lot worse after reviewing. How is that possible? I feel that I'm ready but the scores are telling me otherwise and I need some advise here. Thanks

Just to add I felt prepared before I took the second exam. After all of the reviewing that I did I feel ready to take the exam. But the scores are on the back of my mind. How is this exam scored. I've heard of a person who got a score in the 60's and failing and a person getting 50 something and passing. All advise appreciated. Thanks again.

I don't think you're talking about the same thing. the grades on the practice exams don't have any bearing on the real exams, and you don't get an overall percentage on the real exam. the real ones are a little different because they have experimental questions that don't count towards your grade.

only you can know if you're ready, but it doesn't sound real promising. how are you studying?

I have been reading the studygroup 101 along with the required med surg book and a NCLEX-RN book that I borrowed from a friend.

well you have the materials. I used sg101 and the practice exams personally. I basically read sg101 every spare second until I was so sick of reading it I couldn't do it anymore, then I would test.

Yup, I moved it to next month. I'm just not feeling confident enough since I have those scores. Sighhhhh I really wanted to take it ASAP but I will wait. Thanks for the info.

I took the practice exam before studying and got a 73%, then after I got a 71% so I was discouraged too but went and took it anyway. I got an A on the test so I agree that the scores are not a fair representation of what your grade will be. Although I would study some more, 50 seems kind of low. The practice exams are a great resource though. Good Luck!!
