Has anyone seen the article in the boston globe today about Massbay? The nursing program is frozen right now to new applicants. I am a little concerned because although I wasn't in the program, I was taking a lot of my science classes there anticipating possibly applying...
Does anyone know anyone currently in the program & how serious these issues are? Are they likely to be resolved? What is this school's reputation in general?

I think the future of any current and future nursing students are in question at Mass Bay. Stuff like this doesn't happen over night A. Being the nursing program allowing to fall apart, and B. the Nursing program being rebuilt. I am beyond angry about this since I just finished my last prereqs for the LPN program (I was hoping fall 2008), which is at night in my case (closer to work). I am on the wait list for 2009 for my back-up plan at Quinsigamond Community College (closer to home) for LPN, however it is in the day time, and I work and earn 80% of my income working at the Psych Hospital as a Pharmacy Tech. I think I will save my tax refund money for the next few years and either A. try to survive the semester with working reduced hours between retail pharmacy and the hospital, or B. become a CNA, and make a little bit more money, if not the same and be able to work at night and get okay hours. At this point I am thinking about just going for the RN, but it will take longer with all the BS. I would rather become an LPN, move out of my parents house, then become an RN. then wait up to 4 years just to get into an RN (maybe) program after I wait and finish up the prereqs.
I would totally avoid Mass Bay at this time for nursing of any type. Get your prereqs out of the way and go somewhere else. The legal obligation to the college to nurses entering the nursing programs is nil. The legal obligation at the most to current nursing students in nursing classes if the program is shut down (which is VERY possible at this time) would be to refund your money and say your on your own. :angryfire:angryfire:angryfire:angryfire:angryfire:angryfire

I was accepted to the evening LPN program at MassBay.
I received my bill just last week for the fall semester of 2007.
I hope they let their student's know if they won't be able to
continue with their education in a timely manner, if possible.
Honestly, I don't see anything dramatic taking place; like the article said "it is highly unusual for state regulators to strip a program of its approval."
The administrators at MassBay better get their story straight.

Every student at Mass Bay is receiving a letter in the mail about the nursing program. I received mine today. It pretty much says if your currently in the nursing program or going to be starting in Fall of 2007 (this applies for both RN and LPN) you are fine. However admissions for the Spring 2008 semester [until??) are frozen. It should be noted that the RN program starts in the Spring and the Fall. However, the LPN program only starts in the Fall.
I think I am going to have to go to Quinisigamond Community College in 2009, I will take a CNA class as soon as possible and begin the process of phasing out my nice pharmacy job :-( Since QCC does not have a night LPN program for the general public and my pharmacy is only open days.
yes, to confirm. I did recieve my letter from MassBay explaining
the situation, its like the post said above.
So I guess no LPN to RN bridge program either...until futher notice, of course.

There are other LPN to RN programs, even LPN to BSN, I feel sorry for the students stuck in this mess.
