Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program is perfect for students who want to major in nursing and want to begin their journey to become an RN with an undergraduate degree. The program curriculum follows the recommended framework of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing "Essentials of Baccalaureate Education for Professional Nursing Practice (2008)". After completing the BSN requirements, students that graduate are eligible to apply to write the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) and be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in his or her state. After successful completion of the NCLEX-RN, graduates are able to start practicing as a professional registered nurse.

How will I know which classes to take?

Langston University offers a plan of study on the website that helps guide students through the program with the best plan. This includes the prerequisites courses that are required for the program completion. Each semester has 15-18 Credit hours to complete. The beginning semesters have general courses and every semester builds upon the other to give the student more and more nursing courses as time goes on.

Licensed Practical Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (LPN to BSN)

The LPN to BSN program is designed for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) that would like to take their education to an undergraduate, registered nurse level. LPNs can have an advanced standing by completing and passing the proficiency examinations in selected courses. Holding a BSN degree allows the graduate to be more competitive in the job market. Upon completion of the requirements for the BSN, graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) and be licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in his or her state.

How many credit hours must I have to complete the program?

Sixty (60) hours must be earned at a senior institution, 30 of which must be earned at LU. 124 hours are required for graduation (electives may be used to amass the total). A maximum of 64 hours may be used from the junior college level. There is a plan of study on Langston University's website that includes the plan of study for nursing students that break down every class for every semester to include every course for credit.

School of Nursing Application Requirements (not all inclusive)

Fall admission for the Langston and Tulsa campuses, applicants will need to submit the following documentation postmarked on or before March 1st. For Spring admission to Tulsa Campus only, applicants can submit documentation postmarked on or before October 1st.

Official transcripts from all universities and/or colleges attended as well as from ADN and LPN programs (including transcripts from Langston University)
