Academic Programs

Associate of Science in Nursing

Ivy Tech utilizes a variety of learning strategies in the classroom and clinical settings. With simulation labs, students are able to assume roles and hands-on clinical experiences that are not available to students in the clinical setting.

This 65 credit hour program is designed for students entering into a nursing program for the first time, as well as for Licensed Practical Nurses seeking to advance their nursing education to the Associate Degree level (55 credit hours).

The program can be completed in less than two years. This offers students the opportunity to graduate sooner and begin working if they choose to do so. Statewide aggregate pass rates are consistently high from Ivy Tech graduates and nursing graduates are in high demand throughout Indiana.

Ivy Tech Community College School of Nursing is a selective admission program.  They accept a limited number of students each year. When accepted into the School of Nursing, students fall under the Healthcare Specialists program with a concentration in Nursing while completing the prerequisite requirements.

Practical Nursing (LPN) Technical Certificate

The Technical Certificate in Practical Nursing (45 credit hours) can be earned while pursuing the Associate of Applied Science Degree.  The curriculum is designed for competency in the comprehension of technical and general skills.  The Practical Nursing program leads to a Technical Certificate that can be completed in one year.

The PN program accepts a limited number of students each year and there is a separate application process.

Practical Nursing Graduates

Practical Nursing (PN) program graduates are eligible to apply for the NCLEX-PN licensure examination. Graduates who successfully pass the NCLEX-PN examination have the opportunity to obtain entry level nursing positions in the health care setting. Such areas include nursing homes, extended care facilities, hospitals, clinics, home health care, and physician offices.  Graduates may also wish to continue their education at Ivy Tech or other institutions and transition into an LPN to ASN or higher degree program.

Associate of Science in Nursing Graduates

Graduates of the Associate of Science Degree are able to apply and take the NCLEX-RN licensure examination. Those who successfully pass the NCLEX-RN exam are eligible to apply for a state RN license. ASN graduates may chose to continue their education and transfer to a four-year university where they can enter RN to BSN (Baccalaureate degree) or RN to MSN (Master's Degree) programs.
