The George Washington School of Nursing has two campus locations: GW's Foggy Bottom campus and Virginia Science and Technology Campus (VSTC). With the location in the nation's capital of Washington, D.C., faculty members are able to participate in national health policy discussions.
Undergraduate
Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN)
Students that hold a bachelor's degree in a non-nursing field are able to complete their nursing degree. The program is 15-months in length at a full time status. Students will be on campus at GW's Virginia Science and Technology Campus in Ashburn, Virginia.
Admission Requirements (not all inclusive)
- Bachelor's degree in non-nursing field from accredited college or university
- Minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale from regionally accredited college or university
- Official transcripts (from all post-secondary schools)
- Military and veteran candidates, outside of the Air Force, submit Joint Service transcripts. Air Force candidates provide Community College of the Air Force transcripts
- Two letters of recommendation (at least one academic)

- Personal essay
Veterans BSN
The GW offers a learning environment specifically designed for the Veteran. The Veterans Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) has a custom roadmap based on prior education, military service and experience. This option shortens the degree time.
Admission times are fall and Spring semesters, full time status at Virginia Science and Technology Campus (VSTC) in Ashburn, Virginia.
The degree can be completed in 15 months, full time. Employment during the program is not recommend.
Admission Requirements (not all inclusive)
- Immunization records, PPD (within the past 12 months), evidence of hepatitis B, MMR, varicella, diphtheria, polio and tetanus vaccinations
- Copy of physical examination results
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers
- Current health insurance

- Honorable or general discharge (including reservists)
- Advising and review of military training/experience and academic transcript prior to application
Online RN-BSN
The George Washington University School of Nursing designed a part-time, four-semester program for Registered Nurses (RN) who would like to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. It is flexible enough for students to continue to work while in the program.
The associate's-prepared nurse is able to transfer credits for the BSN. The RN-BSN option requires 21 credits of coursework and the completion of a professional portfolio providing additional credits for advanced standing and competency. Courses within the program can also be transferred if the student desires to complete the master's degree (MSN).
RN-BSN coursework is designed for an online distance-learning asynchronous format that is very flexible. Library resources and student services are available through the online platform. Admission starts in fall and Spring semesters each year.

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
GW Nursing offers a Master of Science in Nursing program in a hybrid format, online and on campus.

Nurse-Midwifery
This program option is a collaboration between the George Washington University School of Nursing, which awards an MSN, and Shenandoah University, which awards a post-graduate certificate.
Graduates are then eligible to sit for the national certification exam given by the American Midwifery Certification Board.
Clinical
Preceptors and clinical sites are managed by Shenandoah University. The student will also be responsible for securing clinical sites. Travel may be involved.
Online RN-MSN
Recent and experienced nurses with an Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) can take advantage of our RN-to-MSN program option, whereby the student will then receive Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Nursing.
A flexible, stringent, and highly structured program, the student works on two degrees simultaneously. The BSN can be completed within 15 months and then in 2 more years, completion of the MSN. Coursework is completed online and GW-approved clinical hours can be obtained in the student's local community.
Clinical hour requirements only apply to the MSN portion of the RN-MSN program of study.
Bridge Program - ADN with a Bachelor's in a Non-Nursing Field
If you are a nurse with an ADN and hold a bachelor's degree in a non-nursing field, this may be the pathway for you. There is a bridge program available for you to take in the Summer before starting GW's MSN program.

The MSN Nurse-Midwifery program option is a collaboration between the George Washington University School of Nursing, which awards an MSN, and Shenandoah University, which awards a post-graduate certificate.
Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)
Our Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree is a practice-focused doctorate designed to help students become experts in advanced nursing practice through nursing practice competencies and innovation. This is an oline format and depending on the program, some on-campus experiences for testing and training.
