Adelphi University, a private, non-profit entity, was founded in 1986.

As founder and director of the Adelphi College School of Nursing from 1942 to 1948, Mildred Montag, PhD, developed the nursing program.

Undergraduate

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)

The Program consists of curriculum that prepares the student to become a Registered Nurse and prepares the student to take the NCLEX-RN licensure exam. The program also offers a one-day-per-week RN to BSN program and a 14-month intensive program for candidates who hold a bachelor's in another discipline.

RN to BSN

Admission (not all inclusive)

  • Current licensure as an RN in the State of New York or eligibility for licensure endorsement
  • Official transcripts from nursing schools and all other institutions of higher education
  • Diploma graduates are required to take and pass 24 credits from Excelsior College
  • Required Excelsior Exams: adult nursing, maternal and child nursing and psychiatric/mental health nursing (at the baccalaureate level)

Accelerated BSN

Admission (not all inclusive)

  • Bachelor's degree from accredited four-year college or university
  • Minimum cumulative 3.0 undergraduate GPA
  • 'C+' or higher in all prerequisite courses
  • 'C+' or better in prerequisite science courses
  • Three professional references
  • Personal statement
  • Interview for qualified candidates

Graduate

Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)

All masters programs are currently part-time programs. The master's level nursing programs facilitate the student's transition into advanced practice nursing roles. Candidates for the MSN must satisfactorily complete a program of study, submit a capstone project and pass a comprehensive examination.

MSN Tracks

Nursing Administration - This track prepares the RN at an advanced MSN level and applies credit towards an MBA. Graduates are able to sit for the ANCC Nurse Executive, Advanced Examination.

Adult Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner - Graduates will be able to sit for the ANCC Adult Nurse Practitioner Examination and/or the AANP Nurse Practitioner Certification Examination.

Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner - Graduates are licensed in NY as a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and are prepared to take the national certification exam for psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioners.

Nursing Education - Graduates are eligible to take the newly offered National League for Nursing Certified Nurse Educator Examination.

Healthcare Informatics - The MSN in Healthcare Informatics combines concepts in healthcare, information technology and leadership practice, assisting the nurse to learn the technical side of healthcare.

Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing (PhD)

The program is 3 years of course work followed by the dissertation. Courses are offered one day a week in executive format. Admission starts in the fall and proceeds through the program in cohorts. The nursing courses are presented in a seminar format. An MSN and two graduate-level statistics courses are required.

Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP)

This Post-Baccalaureate DNP program is a part-time, online program. Students that already have an adult gerontology primary care nurse practitioner MSN and are licensed can apply for advanced placement, reducing the required credits and clinical residency hours for the program.

  • Official transcripts minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and 'B' or above in all science and nursing classes
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution

  • 3 letters of reference from doctorally-prepared nursing faculty or colleague
  • Conduct an interview with a current faculty member in the program
  • Minimum of 1 year working experience post-baccalaureate
  • Students wishing to apply for advanced standing must also have: Master's degree from an accredited program with adult gerontology primary care nurse practitioner focus
  • New York State NP license or be license-eligible
