School at Work and Prereqs

Hello! I'm in need of some advice. Please help where you can.

I'm currently employed at one of our hospitals part time as a PCT. It is a teaching hospital and offers a school at work program from January to June. Within this program, are courses that I need to take as my prereqs. It is a free program and I would actually be paid to go every week. Problem is, they don't offer college credits for this program.

This January, I am starting my prereqs at a community college and I'm wondering if I should just take the courses as planned or if I should also enroll to the program at my job. Will it be a waste of time?

Why not do both? No harm if the program is free AND it pays you. I think the fact that you went through the program at your place of employment AND took the prereqs at CC, would be brownie points on your nursing app--I think doing both would show ambition, commitment and dedication.

I did the same thing. I was a CNA in that program at the hospital of my eomplyment while going to school and completing prereqs simultaneously. The SAW program isn't that demanding, and most of the homework is common sense. You'll be fine. Good luck

Thank you. I wasn't sure how in depth the program would be and I surely don't want to be overwhelmed. I thought it would be smarter for me to focus on the courses that would give me credits. It's nice to hear from someone who has experienced the program. :)
