School, Work, Family...

Hi, I am new to Allnurses and am enjoying all it has to offer!! I am a 42 yr old mother of 2 and a wife of a husband who works long shifts away from home. I work 25 hours a week and am starting pre-nursing classes next month. I am searching for encouragment and advice on how to make this all work out. I am excited to begin this new chapter of my life, but am very concerned on how to do my best with all of these commitments. Any advice would be appriciated. Thank-you!!!:o

I have found that I have to save my deep cleaning for breaks. During school, I do everything that absolutely has to be done, such as dishes, laundry, trash, etc. Sometimes my older 2 help out, but not very eagerly, lol. I try to keep things on hand to make quick dinners, but sometimes dinner can be rather interesting. Sometimes I will buy a big pack of ground beef or chicken breasts and cook it all at once then freeze in meal-sized portions. Then I can pull it out and make a meal with it pretty quickly. It saves time with the clean-up too.

No advice, just someone who's rowing the same boat! I've got 4 boys, aged 11, 9, 6 and almost 4. Going back to school to do nursing pre-req's (have BAs in Political Science and English) Taking Chem I and Nutrition + Well Being this semester; planning Chem II and Micro next semester, then A+P next year. Nursing school (second degree accelerated program; either Villanova, Eastern, Jefferson or maybe if I get a huge inheritance before then, UPenn!) and ultimately, for my masters to be a neonatal NP (which will have to be at Penn sine they've got the only neo program around here)

I'm a planner and scheduler at heart, so I am hopeful that putting those skills to work will be very helpful over the next few years!
