School Title

I prefer to go by Ms. first name. I think it's less intimidating for the kids, and it reminds me less of my former mother in law... lol. Should have changed my name when I got divorced and it was free..

I'm only a lowly CMA, but no matter how much I tell the kids to call me just Ms. Amethya or Medical Aide, I always get "Nurse, Doctor, Surgeon, Ms. Fairy (dyed my hair blue)"

But I always introduce myself as Medical Aide or CMA or MA to parents and in my emails and on my letters.

But either way, I'm always called, "MISSSS!"

I'll answer to Mrs. Moss (sometimes Miss Moss) or Nurse. First name for some of the staff, but not the students. I know some nurses in our district with more difficult last names that go by Nurse or Miss followed by their first name.

I'm Mrs. Supernrse; however, I don't find the Mrs. part necessary. I am totally fine with them calling me by first name. That's what I would go by if I was their nurse in the hospital and I don't find it disrespectful at all if they call me by my name. I've answered to it for 43 years- nothing wrong with the kiddos using it too ?

Most students call me "miss" or "nurse." ? I came from a hospital where I went by my first name, so stepping into a school where everyone goes by their last name was so bizarre. I'd prefer to go by Ms. Firstname or Nurse Firstname, but I guess it's just the norm to go by Ms. Lastname, so I haven't really challenged it.

I work at the preschool level and all staff are Ms./Mr. First Name to the students. Sometimes it's Nurse First Name.

When I worked at the junior high level, it was either Nurse First Name or Nurse Last Name but my last name makes some people (adults included) uncomfortable so they don't like to say it.

My own 2 kids were students at the school before I started working here as a nurse. I was very active in PTA at that point. Most of the students knew me as Ms. "firstname" from PTA and from my daughters dance studio. After 3 years here as the nurse, some students call me Nurse "firstname" and some call me Ms. "firstname" still. I don't mind either. There are a couple teachers that call me Mrs. "lastname" and that's fine too. I don't really mind as long as people are respectful. I just don't appreciate when students walk in and start with "Hey, I need ice (or whatever it is they WANT)"

And then there is one super sweet kiddo that calls me Nurse Koala, because he tried to read my name and that's what he came up with. That's my favorite! ?

Prior to school nursing, I was Nurse First name and it is a hard habit to break! My staff refers to me as Nurse Wine in front of the little ones, but whenever I call home I just naturally say Nurse First Name.

When the littles aren't around most of the staff still calls me Nurse First Name because there are 3 other teachers with the same first name here

I don't care what combination of nurse/name the students call me by. I do however, find it much more respectful for teachers and office staff to use Mrs. Lastname. Often I am referred to as just "the nurse" and it irks me! For example, a student enters the front office and tells the secretary a health-related complaint. The secretary replies with "Go see the nurse." or "The nurse is here today, go on in." I would prefer she use Mrs. Lastname as she would with any other professional in the school. I don't ever hear her say "The principal is here, go on in."!

Me too! No experience in schools before this, and so it's pretty trippy to be called "Miss" all the time. Some of my adult (teacher) coworkers actually call me "Nurse" - without any part of my name attached - which is extra weird. The only other person who gets a plain title like that is the PE teacher ("Coach").

Just respond with "why thank you teacher". It is rude, they just don't remember your name. I have the nickname RN, as our principal has the same first name as me and I am OK with it, I don't want the headaches he has.
