School Nuse Certification question

I am on the middle of a tough situation! I am trying to decide if I can handle the task of working on my school nurse certificate. I am a mother of three, business owner, school nurse, and firefighter-when I have time:o. I am the only nurse in our district and I know that they want me to work on my certificate. For anyone who is certified, do you think it is doable? I have been accepted to U of I for the Fall semester and am thrilled at that, but I am having serious doubts. I would appreciate any advice, or information and the amount of time and work that needs to be applied to the courses.

Thank you for your input!

I found my school nurse certification classes to be some of the most interesting I took. The workload wasn't overwhelming especially since I was already working in a school (I was only considered an aide since I wasn't certified-Even after I was certified, I was still an aid, cost less than hiring me as a nurse!) In PA where I live, I needed a school nurse course, a course on special education and a child welfare course. Wasn't too bad. Good luck!!

Dear MahaloOO,

I to have have been accepted this fall into a CSN program at National-Louis University I have two young children (8 and 4) and will work in a school district as an RN for the first time starting at the end of August. My husband is also self employed and has an unpredictable schedule. Though I know this next year will be challenging and very busy, I feel confident that it can be done. I choose to stay focused on the outcome and have spoken to many other nurses in our position and they have all been able to do it. I will be taking two classes starting in September, one during the Winter term and then complete my internship/seminar in the spring. I really believe it can be done! Best wishes to you!
