i've been applying to other hospitals. my question, has anyone ever accepted a position on a floor that they worked on as a student? how did you handle it? thanks!
i have accepted a position on a floor as a nurse extern and a tech where i was a student and no one treated me any different then a co-worker. i also know of others who graduated with me that have accepted rn positions on floors where we were students and they are now co-workers. professional people tend to act professionally. however, if you know these nurses or the floor to be a bad fit for you, do not apply for a position. it really is that simple. i did not apply for any positions on any floors where i knew i would not be a good fit.
I'm a RN on a floor I worked on as a PCT while in school. The staff has been wonderful! They are always willing to answer my questions, and I have no problems with not being seen as a "real nurse." I get respect from RN's and PCT's alike. If I had it to over again, I wouldn't have changed a thing, I'm greatful to have been a PCT here first.

Hello,
didnt really know how to word the title but here it goes. I recent just graduated from nursing and getting ready for the nclex. Our school usually (hopefully) offers us a job. We do our clinical there. People who get hired usually go to a floor that no one likes. its really busy and understaffed. so i hear from the past grads from our school. We do our clinical on that floor in our last semester. The people aren't really helpful or friendly.
I've been applying to other hospitals. The instructors from our school do the bridge program at the hospital. It really would be a bummer to have them as preceptor or just seeing them everyday. I know they would never look at us as RN's and always as students.
