Scarborough Health Network

Hi ??‍♀️

I’m a new grad RN and was recently hired at Scarborough Health Network and also have another offer to work in a hospice setting.

Does anyone who works at SHN speak to the work culture of the hospital. Is it a supportive environment for new grads? The position is part time with no guaranteed hours vs full time at hospice. I’m struggling since I would love the experience of a hospital setting but worried about the lack of guaranteed hours.

Thanks ?

How can part time not have guaranteed hours? You should be guaranteed part time hours.

I find this weird as well. I’m not sure if this is a thing at SHN where part timers don’t have guaranteed hours. I’m struggling with it though since I would love the hospital experience but don’t want to just be sitting at home waiting for shifts.

I'd probably go with the hospital job. You'd be in the union and after your probation you could apply to internal job postings. SHN is not as well funded as some of the other hospital networks but it's still a good thing for your career.

Thanks for your input. ?
