Hello!
I have not seen a thread for the Summer or Fall 2021 application cycle so I thought I would start one ? Is anyone else planning on applying? Im wondering what the minimal points will be this time around! I think I have between 82-87 points.
Hi everyone! I got accepted to the Fall 2021 cohort and I’m waiting to hear back from other schools closer to my current job. If I decide to attend SBCC I will have to quit my job, move to SB and live out there on my own. Does anyone know how financial aid for ADN programs work for people with a bachelors already? I already have my first bachelors and received federal financial aid over those four years - I’m fine with taking out more loans at this point. I don’t have a ton of money saved up so I’ve been concerned with how I’ll be able to afford the program and sustain myself if I’m out there in SB. Wondering if anyone is navigating a similar situation.

As far as my understanding goes, you can potentially qualify for the California College Promise Grant which can help with enrollment fees/tuition. For subsidized and unsubsidized federal loans it depends how much you borrowed for your first degree. There's a certain limit for those, I'm not sure what it is but once you max that out you can no longer qualify for further federal loans at the undergraduate level. I would discuss further with a financial aid counselor to see what your options are.

Hello! I’m in a similar situation with a previous degree and I’ve been in touch with SBCCs financial aid department. They have really good drop in hours in the afternoons and they helped me a lot. Someone else commented and had some good info! You’ll have to first do a FAFSA no matter what and then they’ll be able to help you. For my situation, I don't qualify for any grants or anything because I have been working with a decent income but I did get approved for $8000 in loans. It’s crazy how low that seems with the cost of living being so high in SB so I will likely need to look into private loans as well. The $8000 is federal and I think (emphasis on think LOL) the maximum you can get is 8k-10k for a whole academic year and then you can get more in private. As the other commenter said it does matter if you took out loans for your previous degree. Congrats on getting in ?
