Good morning!
The last two cars I bought were Japanese and used. New cars are just too expensive. My current one is was gently used with 8,000 miles and was only on the lot four days and hadn't been detailed yet but I snatched it up. Thankfully this was before covid and the demand for Japanese cars. I'm still waiting for environmental vehicles to be more affordable. I walked out on a deal years ago when I was at the credit union getting a loan and the bank noticed a $1,000 charge added to the sticker price. Felt bad for the salesman as he was just a young guy and I would have been his first sale. His boss even approved to have the $1000 removed but I ignored all his calls as it was just too shady.
Ado, sorry to hear about woes with the step-son. I love me some chili, congrats on getting first!
Not much going on here. Shaping up to be a nice Spring day in the low 80's. My favorite time of year.
Hello!
People coming out of the woodwork here to 'help' me, bring us food, etc. Going to get rid of the box Spring/mattress/dresser I want outta here (at end of month). BiL is coming with my nephew who I have not seen in umpteen years. BiL said "He's a big'ole turnip-greens eatin' fella now." He plays in 4 bands and BiL has several songs he recorded on his phone so I can hear the music. I think nephew is a drummer, but I'm not sure. They are going to take the Ford over to BiL's house and tinker with it; we are still in search of the title.
More later, I'm sure....
Joe, I hope your next work week is calmer. Would love to see the rainbow tie.
Stars, let people help you! I probably don't have to tell you that. But, seriously, that's what they should be doing.
Tweety, sounds like a nice day. It warmed up again here towards the end if the week and todas a bit cloudy.
Twin A has a cookbook based on one of his video games. He wanted to try "royal eggs" which were basically eggs Benedict but with smoked salmon. Turned out pretty good but their sauce included cayenne pepper that made it a little spicy. I would use less or skip it altogether.
Sooners are struggling in their game with Central Florida. Hope they can pull it together.
Binx the cat vomited last night and there was a roundworm in the vomit. Gross. I assume we'll need to treat all the pets. Our vet is cutting back on their Saturday hours and isn't open every Saturday. Today is not an open day so will wait for Monday. I did look for an OTC dewormer at Walmart but didn't find one for cats. I could try Tractor Supply. If I get out again today I will see what they have.
Eeek! My nephew is 6'4" tall! As big as his grandfather was! When he was 3-4 y.o he drew me two pictures, one of my cat, Fletcher, and one of my dog Moosie. He titled the dog pic with something I used to say to Moosie when we were playing; "Don't bite your mother" (Actually I'd 'growl', "Do'n bite-cher mutha!" The dog had what they call a "soft mouth".) And the cat pic is captioned (spelling errors and all:) "Simle befre you bite" (Smile before you bite). The cat wasn't a biter, but I think he got that saying off some cartoon show or something. Anyway, when I showed those drawings to people they were amazed a little kid did them. I have had them framed and on my bedroom walls for years! Both niece and nephew were exceptionally smart kids. When nephew had to write a paper for school, he had his sister read it before he turned it in, and she said she had to get out the Thesaurus to look up words because his vocabulary was extensive. .....Yeah, doncha think a drummer in a band should have big vocabulary to draw from, huh?
This is like getting a 'new' family, sort of. I don't think my BiL is a sheep in wolves clothing. I think if hubby was not so drunk all the time, while BiL went off his meds during that same time period, things would've resolved sooner between them. It's all water under the bridge now. I'm sure they hope to benefit somehow, but I don't feel they are hovering like vultures. It is to their benefit to be nice. And they, of all people, understand what Nannie is and was like, and neither of them wanted to deal with her at all, so my many years here have earned their respect.
Welp, I'm going upstairs to get a few "Buh-milla On-belopes" ( kid I used to babysit for when I was 16 used to call them that._) to continue the search for papers needed and the title for the car. When the box Spring, etc can be moved out of that room I'll have a whole 'nother set of bureau drawers to search through; what fun. But most of all I am looking forward to tossing all the trashy, old X-mas decorations and quite-dead fake flowers. Nannie also has a collection of angel figurines, dolls and the like. I'll put them altogether on a loveseat up in the formal livingroom and let my 'relatives' pick out any they want. Maybe I'll save one or two, but I'm not wild about the varieties she has amassed over the years. Nannie never goes upstairs, so she'll never know.
Have to sort out hubby's clothes so I can keep what I want and donate the rest; THEN I will have a dresser to put my clothes in for the first time in a very long while!
I miss hubby being here all the time, and in the evenings I remember him coming out of his bedroom every half hour to go pee. His body was so out of whack, within the last year he walked stooped, shuffling, and one shoulder was 6 inches higher than the other, and that ascites-belly protruding like he was about 9 months pregnant. It makes me feel better to know he doesn't have to suffer all the things any more that he put himself through. Knowing what a straight-upright, tall guy with good posture and a lot of strength (and a lot of smiles,) the way that he used to be, it was so hard seeing him get so run down. We reap what we sow, don't we? Ah well, we had, for most of the 34 years we were married, a good marriage, and at least we were committed to staying together when times were tough. I knew that he was a really good guy at heart. The booze snatched away a lot of his personality, which is sad.
"Up and away, Junior Birdmen!" and "Onward, ever-forward, to Victory for the 39th!" (a line from I don't know what movie) Plodding on through all the things on the To-Do List.
Got to stop dawdling here and go grab those many 8x11 envelopes to look through.....
That's such a good way of remembering your husband. I'm glad you see it as an end to his suffering.
You did say "It is to their benefit to be nice." but I'm sure you're right they aren't wolves in sheep's clothing as they try to get guardianship. It's probably for the best they weren't around as your husband deteriorated and really good they appreciate you taking care of Nannie.
I'm heading to the grocery store and will make some eggplant tomato dip thing and have some pre-made bean soup for dinner. I did decide to work on Monday. They were going to take me off Wednesday if I wanted but offered a $400 bonus on top of time and a half. I've been somewhat of a spendthrift on Amazon lately. Just buying some odds and ends and music.
I did get a nice little compressor because my low tire pressure light came on. It checked the pressure in my tires and inflated them to the right pressure and the light went off. I love the technology of this because figuring out my tire pressure and trying to get it just right at one of those gas stations ones is a bit much. Going to a dealership also is a bit much. So it's money well spent.
I'm reading a queer book "Farrell Covington and the Limits of Style" which starts in the mid-70s and follows a couple. About 150 pages in I realized they were in New York, one of the epicenters for AIDS and I said to myself "if one of them gets AIDS, I'm going to go nuts". Sure enough when the AIDS years hit in the story, that's what happened. I've read a lot of novels and some non-fiction work during the 90's when writers came out of it and started to write about it. It was unavoidable but I burned out on AIDS stories. But I guess I'll stick with it. How fortunate I was to be out as a gay man but came out alive.
We ate some beef stew that a friend brought over to us today, and I made grilled cheese sandwiches for supper. Comfort foods!
Football has taken over most of the channels on which we watch the news. So, going through the channels, I came across PBS running a show called The Singing Contractors, two carpenters who sang gospel and hymns while they were working, and put it online over their cell phones. They were pretty good, and Nannie kept saying "Those two fellows sing good, don't they." and "I like their harmonies." They sang what I call "White Gospel" singing, as opposed to what my mother referred to as "Very peppy!" gospel singing with primarily black choirs. I like both okay, but I really enjoy the PEPPY singing more!
Well, when that was through we came across our (by now) "old friend" Jimmy Swaggart in a program: The Classics. I did catch a glimpse of that really good tenor he had in his choir, who often did solos; I hope he sings a solo tonight. I do have to say that one thing that drives me nuts is watching people clapping along to the songs they are singing, and THEY AREN'T EVEN clapping in unison with the beat! How do ya do that? And another thing, Nannie's feet don't twitch to the music AT ALL. With me, one foot is swinging back and forth, and the other foot has the toes tapping.
Otherwise I am on line and doing crossword puzzles, but Nannie is enjoying the music and songs. While doing private duty cases, I learned to like/tolerate almost anything my patients wanted to watch. There were some exceptions (football, bowling, golf) but I got through all those shifts anyway, and am still here to tell about it. My mother did a good job of teaching us kids to keep busy in church by giving each of us a small pad of paper and a pencil; no note passing allowed, only hang-man or drawing. Hubby used to say if he gave me a pencil and a piece of paper, I could stay busy for hours. (True)
Then at 8 o'clock I can turn over to watch a continuation of the Figure Skating competition we watched last night. I really do enjoy the skating; my sister and mother both kept track of all the skaters during 'skating season' via a Figure Skating magazine. (There are so many specialty magazines now it is amazing.)
Then, ten o'clock is Nannie's bedtime, which I look most forward to.?
Sooners eked out a win and are still undefeated.
I can tolerate a lot of things on the TV but when patients were watching Fox News it set my teeth on edge. These days I consider it part of my job to change the channel if the TV in the staff break room is on Fox. Apologies to those who don't share my aversion. I live in a small town in Oklahoma so I am in the minority.
Ado- Ohhhh yeah, I did have a patient who kept his TV on ALLLLLL day, and only on Fox News. Whew! Being on Fox was bad enough, but the repetition of the stories they covered, and hearing them for 12 hour shifts. OY!
We have a new meteorologist guy....Joe Puma....and he is an example of entirely too much BOTOX! The only things on his face that move are when he blinks, his eyelids move; and his lips move when he talks. It is very odd watching him...kind of creepy, actually.
Haven't done any of the things I planned to do today. OOOOOOHHHWELLLLL!

Stars hope the lawyer can get the guardianship taken care of quickly
NJ22 a day trip to Seattle sounds nice
Tweety glad to hear of the 4 day weekend
Ado sorry to hear that he's lashing out at those trying to help him
Yesterday was a day of frustrations. Hoping for a quieter day at work, but nope, had to work through lunch again to get everything done. Did get out on time. Hoping things will be better next week
The car dealership was an even bigger disappointment. Turns out the new hybrid model I wanted has premium of several thousand dollars due to high demand, which wasn't included in the online price. They wanted me to get a longer loan to cover that but I declined, I want this to be a good financial decision
So now I have to figure out next steps. Might check another dealership, just in case this premium is something this particular one does. Could also go back to my original plan for a used car. Or I could look at different non hybrid cars that would be in less demand
Today will go for a hike as usual, thought about taking my bike out but it's a bit too cold. Then will have lunch with dad
This evening the gay group has their fundraising gala, which should be interesting. Got a rainbow tie just for that event
Cold now but going to get up to the mid 60s later, with rain in the evening
