Santa Rosa Memorial thoughts?

U.S.A. California

Hey guys,

I was just offered a position at Santa Rosa Memorial and wanted to know if any of you have had experience with this facility. From my Internet searches, it sounds like the RNs there went on strike a few years ago due to slashed benefits, and there was a post by someone on this site, in 2012, warning to stay away from the hospital.

If you guys have any experience with SR Memorial, please feel free to share! Kind of wish I had the foresight to research the organization before the interview, but oh well.

Hello rnbay2017, the place is full of politics, elevated stress levels among the nursing staff, and recently the hospital brought in large groups of travel nurses. Many travel agencies right now offering start dates of October 2017 for thirteen week assignments at this hospital. From what my best friend who is working as a travel nurse there now says, be prepared as the nurses are discussing with the union for a "potential strike" in September 2017. So, there seems to be many issues related to staffing, wages, benefits that are still very problematic.

Wow, that is extremely disconcerting. Thank you so much for giving me insight into the facility! Would you happen to know what unit your best friend works on?

Hello rnbay2017, yes, my friend floats-ICU, telemetry 4west, oncology 3east occasionally med/surg, mainly 12 hour day shift. She told me she is counting the days left on her travel contract----bad!!!!!!

Last question, I swear! Can you ask her what her experience was like in the ICU? e.g. teamwork, doctors, safe patient care, ratio of travelers to staff? I only ask because I was offered an ICU position which is awesome, but if things are as bad as you say I have a med/surg offer elsewhere that I can take instead.

Thank you so much for all of your help!

Hello rnbay2017, okay, so my friend said ICU and telemetry 4west are the better units to work on. Accordingly, she said there are some travel nurses in ICU, and regular staff nurses-some of which are new hires. Docs and nurses in ICU & telemetry-easier to work with than in medsurg/onc. Ratios are average for ICU, but travelers get higher acuity patients and float first. Lastly, she stated the documentation system is Meditech, and that she has overheard nurses say Kaiser and Sutter Hospitals(both in Santa Rosa) pay much more $$$$$ for the same ICU positions-Kaiser has best benefits.

I suppose you will have to think about what's going to work best for you rnbay2017. Good Luck!

Thank you for answering all of my annoying questions! Please pass my thanks on to your friend too; I owe you both big time!!

Hi!! I just saw this post and was wondering how long it took you to hear back from the nurse manager after your interview?

I had an interview two weeks ago and I haven't heard back and am starting to stress. Thanks!
