Urgent! CSU Systemwide Impaction and SJSU
On Thursday, November 20, 2008, in response to the state's worsening fiscal crisis, the California State University system declared systemwide impaction for the first time in its history.
San José State University must immediately develop and implement a plan to reduce enrollment. Several measures are currently in effect:
However, it is likely that additional measures will be implemented.
Fall 2009 First Time Freshman Applicants
Fall 2009 Lower Division Transfers
Fall 2009 Upper Division Transfers
Fall 2009 Post-baccalaureate Applicants
Graduate Applicants
Communication to Applicants
After the initial filing period, applicants will be notified about the implementation of impaction at SJSU. The measures SJSU will take are dependent upon the number and quality of applications received before the November 30 deadline. Again, your patience is requested while we make certain that every applicant has an opportunity to be considered.

Unless things have changed a lot in one year, the nursing program will have plenty of applicants from current SJSU students.
I do not feel that it will change things drastically but because it will make priority for Santa Clara County Residents and also put a limit to applying no more than 3 different time (beginning April 2009), as a San Jose resident, I feel more confident about my future application.
Best of luck to you:)! Did you make the November 30th deadline:up:?

When I went there a couple of decades ago they were wrestling with the impact status of the nursing school. While I would not qualify to get in now, I can see that it is a fair way to limit admissions. I do believe however, that they should address poor performers. Getting rid of those on academic probation for too long a period, or too many times, would also free up some seats for deserving students. I saw where another of the campuses is considering getting rid of academic low achievers as a way of cutting down on enrollment. I also like that they are giving preference to residents of SC County. Only fair. Good luck to all who are planning on attending SJSU.
yeah, I believe that would work as well. I am a little concerned about SJSU's passing rates dropping. I read some where that they may be making some changes to help more students pass the NCLEX. I hope when I do get accepted and start it's curriculum is relative to NCLEX preparation.
