San Jacinto College South - LVN to RN transition 2019

Published

The application deadline has just closed for Spring 2019 LVN to RN transition program at San Jac South in Houston. I was hoping to hear from any current or previous students who have some insight on the program.

So far my experience with applying and dealing with the college had been great. Far better than Lone Star even. But they have been very non-specific on what the actual program is like as far as work load, scheduling, clinical, etc. Am trying to gauge ahead of time just how busy it will be.

Yes, I am!! Actually...I just went through Level 1 but am having to redo Med Surg and Clinical again this Fall.

Oh so did you start in the spring then? How is the first semester??

Yes I did and we are currently off for the summer!! ?Did you take any of the xtra classes offered? (Health assessment, transitions, pharm, math for meds) if you did, your load will be lighter than most. I took 2 of the 4 classes before the program began so when we started, I took Health Assessment and Transitions on Monday’s, Med Surg on wed afternoon and I had Clinical on saturday. So they accepted 59 students and then halved us up. 30 of us took classes on Monday and the other half on Tuesday. We were all together for medsurg on Wednesday afternoon. Some also had the other classes on Wednesday morning or evening. Then Clinicals were scheduled in between.

No I did not. They said they were restructuring and not offering them in the summer anymore :( So the the program doesn't go through the summer? That sucks, I didn't realize that.

No, the class I entered with are all off this summer however I did hear about the restructuring of the incoming classes. The spring class before us went through the summer though. So if none of those classes were offered, you will have a very heavy load! That’s insane!! I really hate hearing that although some of my peers did take all classes while on the program bcs they could not take them prior to and I know it is doable but extremely hard!!

Yea I was pretty disappointed when they said I wouldn’t be able to take them. They had told me when I dropped off my packet that they were doing it but then when I got my acceptance and inquired about it, that’s when they told me they no longer offered it. I saw the first semester. It does look like a lot of work. I think it was something like 17 hours?

Is this post for transition at South campus for Fall2019?
