San Jacinto College - Applicants

U.S.A. Texas

Published

Ok, I just turned in my application for the ADN program at San Jacinto College. I was wondering who else out there applied this go round?

What option did you use going in? A or B?

I used A, after taking my ACT a few weeks ago. I scored a 30, so hopefully that will get me in!!!

Applications are due June 1st!

Good Luck to EVERYONE!!!

I'm not kmbridges, but I got into San Jac through option A! :w00t: Wasn't my first choice since it is a distance away from where I live, but I will make the sacrifice and go wherever I can get in. I'm just scared of not having enough time because of all the driving I will have to do in addition to working part-time. I went to orientation and heard testimony from some first-year nursing students who had to quit their jobs in order to keep up with the school work. I'm not in a position where I can quit. Does anyone else who attended/attends San Jac have any advice?

I am a San Jac ADN grad - Dec 2004! I worked part-time nights at an Assisted Living facility very close to San Jac South while in school. I struggled to pay a $2200 mortgage and daycare for a 2 year old, etc while going through school. I cried after orientation when I heard everyone continually discuss how I simply could not work and still do well in Nursing School.

It is absolutely a lie! You can do anything. I think that if you are living at home with Mom and Dad, and you do not have to contribute to the household's income, then you are better served by not working the first semester. But unfortunately, we are not all in that situation.

Surround yourself with positive people who will build you up and encourage you. Zetha Warren was one professor that was extremely uplifting and encouraging to me on my really bad days. She started as an LVN, worked her way up to RN, and finally ACNP. She did it all while working and raising small kiddos. I have a tremendous amount of respect for her.

Maybe you can find a good mix by selecting a job that will benefit your career. If you want a PSN job, I have connections! PM me.

I have been an RN since Jan 2005. I took NCLEX 1 time, got the minimum of 75 questions, and passed with flying colors. Since then, I have worked in acute care, was recently offered a charge nurse position, and have had my writing published in a nursing journal. And, in addition, I still go to school! I'm on my way to becoming a NP.

Nursing school is challenging - mentally, physically, and emotionally. Just like nursing. But the rewards are plentiful.

I got a 23 on the ACT does anybody know if that will get me into the nursing program at San Jac central

Specializes in Telemetry.

Update ... I am almost done! We get a summer break, and then I graduate in December after Psych and Management. I moved to a location nearer to the school, and I continue to work part-time. It has taken a lot of work and discipline to get to this point - very well worth it, but I am soooo tired! I have to manage my time between attending lectures, doing 12 hour clinicals, writing up care plans/case studies, doing presentations/papers plus other extra requirements, reading the textbook, studying, and working 5 hours 5 days a week. AND, let's not forget SNA and community involvement. I'd just like to say that if you really want it, it can be achieved! :nurse:
