i currently work in the pacu at a large university hospital in north carolina. i am moving home to san francisco in march and i am looking for permanent employment in the bay as a pediatric icu nurse or pacu nurse. i've been hearing that there is a hiring freeze at ucsf. is this true? what about other unionized hospitals in the area? i just feel like i'm jumping out there with no safety net. any advice or feedback about the local hospitals? sutter? st. marys? oakland children's hospital? thanks!!

I am interested in similar advice as well :) good luck

Hi, I'm not sure if there's an official "freeze" in Norcal right now, but it feels pretty chilly on the hiring front. I graduated in Dec '08 (sat for the NCLEX earlier this week), and sat through half dozen presentations by Sutter/Kaiser/UC and Other hospital HR managers, and they are all saying that if h@ll hasn't yet frozen over, it may do so soon. It's really tough out there for new grads.
