San Fran

Thinking od doing a contract in San Fran. Talked with a recruiter and she said their usual pay is

18-23/ hr and a stipend of 3500. Seems low to me? I would

want them to find my housing, so I would only be getting that hourly rate.

Seems way too low. Can anyone recomend a good company that pays better? Pm me if you have more info.

This just doesn't seem right. I always thought rates were in high 30"s to low forties.

Or is that a blended rate with the stipend and tax free allowances?

Alameda County Med Ctr. I just read a post that said a MD got beaten to tell a death a few yrs ao. She might have lived after the assault but no one notice she was even gond. Less than thrilled about difficult pts but willing to take it B/c it's where I wanted go and that hard for psych nurses.

I'll be living in SF but the hospital is in Oakland so I get the Oakland stipend. I ended up with $41 an hour with stipend and blended.

I'm in the middle of mind numbing orientation but just want to confirm that a MD was killed there. She took a pt into her office and shut the door to talk to him. Stupid stupid stupid. They have had a ton of suicides though which means that I'm going to have to watch my back more than ever at this place. It's hard core... but I like high acuity so it should be interesting

Bay Area is where it's at!!!!

San Fran is an excellent destination but I think that company is a little low. Minimum for bay area is around 32.00 w/ comps. If you get a decent assignment only take the 36-hr/wk contract. Per Diem at places like O'conner Hospital in San Jose, Los Gatos or Walnut Creek are all above 64.00/hr. Depends on how ambitious you want to be and how much you want to work.

Good Luck

I have a friend making $64.00 per diem in San Fran- so actually, it seems more lucrative to just get your CA license on your own, find a roommate on craigslist and forget the travel company? Isn't that easier for the hospital as well?

Update on the psych hospital. I love Cali staffing!!!! We had 4RN's and 3 techs on last night for like 20 pts including an admit. In Mass we would have had 2ppl. The facility is set up so you have to knowingly bypass a safety measure in order to be put in a situation worse than in another hospital. They will recert you in CPI b/c they want everyone trained to do it as a team. The class was 2 days and really good. We dragged each other around a whole lot. And who doesn't want to take a swing at the person running orientation, lol.

Anyway the night shift is dominated by 2 RN's from down south (they're in their 70's) and they henpeck each other but are good to travelers. At least half the staff there were originally travelers which says a WHOLE lot. Also, there are people who have worked there for decades and they still have all their teeth.

So, if there is an opportunity don't let the rumors keep you away. The pts are very sick, but the workload is manageable.
