San Diego vs Naples, Italy

While I am patiently waiting I did get a chance to speak to some current active duty officers and I received alot of great feedback. One thing I did find out is how many billets in my specialty there are and currently where they are located. This has helped alot because once the oppurtunity comes up when I do get to speak to a detailor I atleast know what locations to expect. However, the one's that interest me are of course Portsmouth, San Diego and Naples, Italy. The billets in Naples and San Diego have been open for a while. I am a southern girl and have lived mostly on the east coast and have visited over seas europe(london) before but not Italy. I am trying to be open minded.

Does anyone have any suggestions on either of these bases?

FYI: I have never been to west coast or Italy so I have no clue about either except whats on maps, tv and internet. :typing

san diego vs. italy if you had an actual choice?..... I can't believe your even debating this. lol.

I spent 5 years in Naples as a kid/teen ... I was a civil service brat and grew up overseas. I'd pick Naples in a heartbeat! Not that San Diego isn't nice, and to be quite honest, Naples is one of the dirtiest places I've seen in my life ... and I've seen a lot of places. BUT! The culture there is fantastic, the people are so incredibly friendly, and it's an amazing place to live. I think if you choose Naples, you will NOT regret it. But it is nothing like the rest of Europe! Not a bad thing, though.

LunahRN,

I am really leaning towards Naples. I absolutely loved the few times I have been to Europe. I have always wanted to travel around and sight see. I was wondering how the people are too. Thanks for your info.

Glad to help. I'm sure it'll be an experience you'll never forget, much less regret! I'd go back overseas in an instant. I'm actually seriously considering applying for a civilian RN position overseas in the next year.

Best of luck to you!!
