San Diego State University

Published

Hey everyone! I just recently made an account, but have been lurking around for a while. I am currently a senior in high school and just about to finish my applications. One of the schools I am applying to is San Diego State University. I am just about ready to submit my application, but before I do that, I have a question.

Question: Do I apply as Nursing and if I am admitted, become pre-nursing until i complete the pre-reqs for their nursing program? Or do I apply as undeclared? There is no undeclared with an interest in nursing, nor is there a pre-nursing major to choose from.

Also when I select nursing as my major it says that "Nursing transfer applicants must file a separate application with the Nursing Department. For more information please go to nursing.sdsu.edu." which makes me think the major is only for those applying to the actual program. But then I hear people talking about being pre-nursing at San Diego State University. So how do they get into that major?

You should probably contact the school. I'm guessing those that say they are pre-nursing are just undeclared and taking pre-reqs. Also, be sure to look at pre-reqs for other nursing programs as you'll want to apply to more than one school when the time comes.

For applying to the main university, you apply as a pre-nursing major. Then when you have completed the prerequisites and met the other necessary requirements for getting into the school of nursing (which you can find on the school of nursing website) you apply separately for them. I went into SDSU as a transfer student, so I had to do both at the same time. Talk to the Admissions folks if there are other more specific questions, and good luck!

Thanks for your help guys! I contacted the school and was told to apply as Nursing or Undeclared. And if I am admitted, I'd be considered a "Pre-Nursing" major.
