San Diego Hospitals

Nurses New Nurse

Published

I am graduating in May from a school in Denver but I want to go to San Diego, as Cali is where I am from. Does anyone have any comments they would like to share about new grad programs at the hospitals like if they like it or not. Perhaps what the word is on the street with each hospital, is it hard to get a job? I am applying to Sharps new grad program right now for the ED, would anyone recommend I pay to take ACLS or should I wait to see if we do that in orientation. I guess any advice would be great. I feel like being educated outside the area is a real disadvantage and therefore I feel pretty apprehensive.

PS If it means anything this is my second degree. The first was in nutrition.

Thanks a million

You should try posting this in the California section. you can get there by going to "region" at the top of the screen. There is a lot of great information there, specific to California. You are smart to get a head start... the market is pretty crazy in California right now.

I already did it my friend. I just wanted to branch to new nurses specifically.

But thank you for the tip-your awesome!

I had talked with one particular nurse recruiter that said i should get my ACLS before I apply to her hospital just because it makes you look better than the next person.

I kept putting off taking the class so I ended up just writing "ACLS in progress" on my resume.

I just graduated in december and the only interview I was able to get never mentioned the fact that I was in progress of getting my ACLS so it didn't make a difference in the end. now the hospital where i got a job said they don't reimburse for ACLS if done outside the hospital :( oh well though.

if you don't mind the drive, there is a place in long beach where i got my ACLS for $145. its over 2 days but only 4 hours a day and he let us go early each day. the test at the end was a group test so it made it really easy and relaxing for a new grad! the place is called PRO-CPR.
