Ok one thread to include them all I'm listening so what's your story.
Are you on the wait list to get in? Did you just get accepted?
If you are a student/previous student, can you tell what your program is like? Where do you have clinicals?
How long do you wait to get in? What were your test scores?
I've applied to City and Grossmont to do the step up program and they both tell me that for LVN-RN the wait is 2 years.
So now I'm in a statistics class because once I finish that I can apply to National for the LVN-BSN. I'm not sure what the reputation of the NU nursing program is but I know they are accredited so that's why I'm going for it.
Skipping Maric (which is now called Kaplan) becuase they are not WASC accredited and I have put way too much time in college to just disregard that now. :)
Looking forward to reading your responses :heartbeat
Yup. People are no longer waiting; if they have good grades they can get in right away. Right now they still take some ppl from the wait list because they have been waiting for three years now. But those who get A's in the pre-reqs and test good on the TEAS do not have to wait. The director of nursing from City College posted on a thread about this and let everyone know. More information might be on the City College website. :)
All community colleges have the same criteria now, no more waitlists. Due to some law that was passed in CA a couple of years ago. But guess what? Now you will be competing with people who don't want to wait for the ABSN programs (like me). I don't want to wait 2 years for Azusa Pacifics ABSN, so I'm thinking of applying to the community colleges. The pros are that it's about $35k cheaper, and I won't have to wait since my science GPA is 4.0 and I got a 94% on the TEAS. There are a bunch of other people who are in my exact situation that may do the same thing.
City College is very helpful (Grossmont is not) and you can go there in person to get information or just call them. Don't bother contacting Grossmont as they won't tell you anything (or anything good that is)Good luck!
I'm not sure why you would say that about Grossmont. As a Grossmont grad I always felt supported by the Grossmont faculty and staff starting from the time I applied all the way through until I graduated, and even still today. I know they are all very excited about the new admission requirements, and if you check their website at Nursing Department, it will provide you with all the information you need to apply, and I think they have even added a new application period. Good luck wherever you end up.

Even when there were still waiting lists, there were still people applying to community colleges who already possessed degrees. It's not a new novel concept to save time and money by getting your nursing education at a community college.
Thanks for the update MrsEd. :) In the past every student I encountered wanting to go into Nursing did not feel encouraged by Grossmont faculty. It was well known around Grossmont and I was a student there for about 10 years. Now that I have left it has changed and that is good! I'm sure they do support their students that are in the program already. But they were famous for not giving encouragement or information to those on the infamous waitlist. Gosh what was it. Like 3-4 years? The latest instance right before they changed was telling the LVN-RN hopefuls that they would have to wait three years. In reality it was only one. City it was different feeling. Your letter stated what number you were on the waitlist and when you called the person on the phone would tell you what kind of a chance you had to get in the program, what the number really meant (like they said lots of students didn't accept and you had a good chance of getting in) things like that. Grossmont didn't do that. My friend worked in the office there and she said people would get so mad at her! LOL
But now without the wait list the exceptional student will have no problems getting in and I think for the next two years the CC's are still accepting those who were on the waitlist. Really, this change was long overdue. :)
As for previous degrees, there were many students in my program that had Bachelor's and a few had Masters. They were all top notch students.

BeanTrees, the community college system has banished the waitlist so if you are rocking your pre-reqs and have a previous degree you will have a great chance of getting into a program once you apply. :) City College is very helpful (Grossmont is not) and you can go there in person to get information or just call them.
