San Antonio-- Which area is a better place to live??

Published

I am a new grad living in Houston and I might be moving to San Antonio for a job. I have 2 small children and I would like to live in a nice, safe, family friendly area with good schools. I have narrowed it down to these areas:

1) The North side of SA at loop 1604 and 281 in the Stone Oak area.

2) The Northwest side at I-10 and 1604.

Does anyone have input on these two areas? Also if I am driving downtown which freeway has more traffic usually 281 or I-10...

One last thing, I will probably have to hire a nanny, does anyone have an idea how to find one? I dont know any daycares that would be open during my entire 12 hour shift plus commute.

This is very over whelming and would be much simpler without kids or if I had family/friends to help, but I dont :( I would be very thankful for any info that is given to me.. :loveya:

Hey there Houstonian we'd love for you to be a san antonian!! I live off 1604 near Randolph and it's a little more quiet than the 281 area. If you are going to go that route be prepared for a sitting in traffic ride if your on the 7am shift if your evenings or nights your good. It's just that 281 juct is crammed full of people which live in the area. Also San Antonio is going to be doing construction because of the problem.

Between 281 to 35n would be good. Also we have tons of summer programs for kids and after school cares but if you have got wee ones a nanny is cool I just don't know anyone that does that. I know lots about the different hosp systems and jobs out here. I was born and raised in SA. Have any more questions? If you want to get awesome experience at a hospital methodist and university have tons of good things about them. There's a methodist hospital right at 35N. Have fun good luck and smile!!!

Specializes in NICU.

Hey! OUt of your two choices I would go with the 1604 & I10 area because of traffic. The Stone Oak area traffic is ridiculous....however, Methodist Stone Oak hospital just opened up so if you work there that may be ok although the traffic around there is just plain bad. Methodist has lots of hospitals through out the city plus there are other hospital systems so no matter where you choose to live, there are plenty of hospitals nearby it seems. Both of those areas have good schools though I think. I grew up near 10 & 1604 and went to Northside ISD schools.

I don't ever drive downtown so I don't have much input as far as which highway has more traffic.

Don't know anything about nannies either since I have no kids.

Good luck with wherever you end up! If you have any questions feel free to ask!

Thank you!!! You both just saved me a world of headache by telliing me about the traffic situation around 281 and 1604!!!

I applied to all the hospital systems but Baptist is the only one who any offer me a position. Do you guys have any info about Baptist Medical Center?

I love San Antonio and I hope I get the job!!
