Might be moving if hubby gets the job, we were wondering about pay for LVN, just basic say hospital care, not nursing home or agency. Any range would be fine, I make 13.65 as a new grad with previous nursing experience. I will be out for a year in July.
Also, what areas are nice???
Thanks!

I live in Austin, so I cannot reply with complete authority, however I believe SA hospitals will pay new grad LVNs in the $12-15 dollar range, depending on shift differentials, etc.
Wages throughout the Central Texas area tend to be low due to the desirability of living here and the fact that there are numerous schools churning out RNs and LVNs regularly. However, it's a beautiful place to live, and the cost of living is far lower than in many other urban areas.
Good luck to you!

thank you for such a quick response! I hear nice things about central texas. I live in MO and we have a low pay rate as well, but i hear it is just that we pay low with no specific reason. I am planning on getting my RN very soon-Have to move and get back into school first-hoping we'll know within a month if we'll be joining all of you.
I don't care so much about my pay, the cost of living is fine enough that even if my pay is the same, that is okay. Hubby's will go up and that is what matters. we lived in vegas for a while and san diego and if we were going back to those places, then I'd worry!
Just on a side note, and I will email the state board-anyone know if there is a temp license while waiting to get a perm. one?
Thanks again-any more thoughts and ideas etc about SA would be greatly appreciated!

I live in a area just north of San Antonio. I graduated from school April 2006. Pay to work directly for a hospital for an LVN is not great. I started at one of the Baptist Hosp in San Antonio and they started me of at 12.50. Went after to do Pediatric Home Health and they paid me $20 am now going to an agency to go back to the hospital and they are starting me at $23. So pay is not too bad you just have to do some research. Hope this helps.

Hi,
This is interesting.
Currently I live in Chicago, IL and I've heard of coworkers doing something similar.
I'm reading the TX forum because I'll be relocating in a couple of months.
So, thanks for the advice.
When I'm in TX may I pm you to ask for your agency? I do not know when I'll be able to apply through and agency because I'll have an IL nursing license at first AND will busily be adapting to life as an Army nurse at BAMC too and will need several months to get acclimated before I can pick up any extra shifts as agency on my off days.
:)
Soon to be residing in TEXAS.

Hello! I'm not a nurse yet, but I live in the San Antonio area. I just wanted to let you know that the nicest areas in the city to live are by far the North/Northwest/Northeast sides. There is a lot of development in these areas right now and they are very desirable locations to live. My favorite neighborhoods are around the North Loop 1604 area. Low cost of living is definitely a plus! I love San Antonio-there is so much culture and many things to do. I would also say it's a very friendly city. Can you tell I'm proud to live where I do?
Good luck!
