San Antonio hospitals

U.S.A. Texas

Published

I am a new nurse, I just graduated in May and passed my NCLEX. So, I don't have any experience and I am going to be moving to San Antonio. THere are so many hospitals and I don't even know where to start. Can anyone tell me if certain hospitals do or don't hire new nurses and just any recommendations any of y'all have? Also, if you know anything about benefits that would be great. I looked online, but only a couple had their benefits listed.

Thank you so much! Sorry, I just don't even know where to start.

Based on your username, I am assuming you're a Texas Tech grad - so you'll be moving to SA from the Lubbock area? If so, you already have that Tx license & have graduated from a really great program.

Do you know where you will be living in SA? The "Medical Center" is on the NW side - but there are also community hospitals throughout the metro area, many of which are part of a hospital system. CHRISTUS Santa Rosa & Baptist are all major not-for-profit systems. Methodist is owned by HCA. University Hospital (med center) is the UTHSC teaching hospital. The Nix Hospital also has some satellite locations -- their 'mothership' is right downtown on the Riverwalk; it's a pretty cool location.

SA salaries are lower than DFW or Houston, but is supposedly offset by a lower cost of living. I'm originally from SA, and I don't see the validity of that claim.

I know that CHRISTUS Santa Rosa hires new grads via their Versant program. University & Methodist have nurse residency programs. Baptist has it's own nursing school (relic of a bygone age) , so I don't know if they also hire new grads from other programs.

Best of luck on your relocation. I know you'll enjoy SA - it's a fun place with lots to do.

Thank you for the info! & yes, I just graduated from Texas Tech. Thanks again for replying, I appreciate it! :)

I'm probably going to be moving to the Stone Oak area, but am willing to drive wherever to find a job.
