U.S.A. California

Hi all,

Applications are due just around the corner, and I was just wondering if anyone else has started the application process yet.

It would be good to hear back from others who are going through the same process!

Hi Everyone,

I am also applying for the Fall 2011 ELMSN FNP program in Oakland. Very anxious/excited/nervous! I still have to finish up my application...need to enter all my coursework, yuck!, and finalize my personal statement. I am also hoping and praying my transcripts are received in time!

Does anyone know what the process is after the 1/15 deadline? - when we would find out if we get an interview? accepted?

Any idea how many people on average apply?

Thanks! & Good Luck to all of us!

-Sarah :)

Hey, I submitted my application in November and I think they just sent it to Sam Merritt. So what happens is the deadline is 1/15 however, NursingCAS can take up to 4-6 weeks to process your application before sending it to Sam Merritt. So everyone's gotta wait for everyone else's apps to get in.

The counselor told me that they have their POW WOW sometime after 1/15 when all the paperwork have arrived. Apparently, NursingCAS does GPA calculations but Sam Merrit does them differently so they have to redo everyone's GPA according to their rules. So looks like that takes time. I was told to just hang tight til around March/April.

I heard there's quite a bit of lag time after all applications are submitted so be patient and then the interview/acceptance period is faster. I'm not sure how many people apply each year (i'm guessing hundreds) but they grant about 60 interviews and they accept 20-something give or take at their discretion. The stats aren't THAT bad but I'd still say it's competitive you know?

Good Luck!

Hi everyone! I am just joining now because I plan to submit my application today or tomorrow. Im not a huge fan of the NursingCAS deal so I had a couple questions. For the essay, did you all make it generic to nursing or specify a desire to be an advanced nursing practitioner/FNP?

Also, has everyone completed their pre-reqs? I have 3 more but im still working so I was planning to take one this semester and finish up the other two over the summer. Im a bit worried that this will hinder my acceptance. Anyone else in my position?

@gohs - I know for the ABSN you have to have your pre-reqs done by the end of the term prior the your entry. So if you are entering Fall 2011, pre-reqs need to be done by end of Spring 2011, not summer. The SMU page about pre-reqs references deadlines, but then they don't actually give them. You might want to double check with the school and make sure that you aren't giving NursingCAS the app fee for no reason.

thanks oaktown2! I called today and ****** said that you just have to have the classes complete by the start of the program for the ELMSN program...phew!

Quick question for everyone about the essay - it says the limit it 2970 but it seems like you can go over that? Did everyone stick to the stated character limit? Seems like not much space to try to include everything you want them to know but oh well.

Thanks and best of luck to everyone!!

Hi Gohs,

For the essay section, you will be able to type over the limit, but you won't be able to submit that section to NursingCAS. That's what happened to me, so I had to cut it down, and I also kept my essay pretty general, not FNP specific. I figured the admissions committee would be reading mostly general, non-specific essays anyway? Good luck!

Hi RosePetalss,

I am applying for both FNP and CNP programs at SMU, and I was wondering when you mention about what you want to become, what did you refer the title as? I put it as "advanced practice nurse". I wonder if that is appropriate...?

Hi Genkianna,

I just put "nurse" for my title. I think they pretty much know what you want to be since you're applying to a specific FNP program or the CNP (Case Management?) one. I even contemplated putting the whole "Family Nurse Practitioner" in there since I'm only applying to SMU through NursingCAS... but oh well. Good luck!

NursingCAS STILL has not received my transcripts yet... ugh. This is really frustrating. I sent them back in December... what's going on! Is anyone having this problem, or did anyone have this problem? Should I send another round of transcripts in?

Hey guys I'm applying to the elmsn fnp also... Rose, nursing cas received 4 of my 5 transcripts but I was worried so I sent the one they didn't receive again- hopefully they get it soon. After my counselor meeting tho it seems like there is a little wiggle room with the transcripts and letters of rec getting in on time. I still have 2 of the easier prereqs I'm starting in Jan too. AnywY I'm super anxious/excited about all this! So much waiting! Good Luck to us all!

hi everyone. I talked with samuel merritt, and they said that from 1-15, we should wait for 6-8 weeks before hearing anything about our status

Thank you for your response RosePetalss,

I am actually having the same problem with the transcripts!! I just called two of my schools to make sure they already sent out the transcripts. Hopefully they will receive them soon. I heard that there are couple weeks of lag time after the 15th, so hopefully if they receive our transcripts after the 15th, it won't be a problem.

I just submitted my app today!! :yeah:

I was nervous because I noticed my transcripts also say "not received" so I called the schools & they were sent on the 3rd and 5th, so I'm guessing they may have them but it takes time to process them and post them as received.

I was getting worried, because I was wondering since the deadline is Saturday, and NursingCAS says it could take a few weeks to mail to the school, if the application would be considered late, but I don't think so since I'm seeing a lot of other people on here in the same boat as me??

I feel a slight weight lifted off my shoulders now that I have have actually submitted the app....now the waiting begins...

Good luck to us all!
