Anyone out there applying for this program? Looking for some friends to share the stress of the waiting game with!

Check this out, guys:

Re: Entry into Practice: Direct Entry MSN programs

I am a recent graduate of a direct entry MSN program and I feel that I was adequately prepared to be a novice FNP upon graduation. We were held to very rigorous standards and would not have been allowed to graduate had we not met these standards. Would some time time working as an RN have been valuable? Absolutely, but I don't think it's imperative. I've only been working a few months as an FNP, but I had no trouble getting a job, and am well respected by my colleagues (RNs, NPs, and MDs) and patients. I certainly don't know everything and of course, never will, but I believe I give my patients very good care and I'm not afraid to ask questions of those with more experience. Don't be too quick to discount direct entry programs. Let the performance of the individual speak for her(or him)self. It may not be the traditional path to an MSN, but it is certainly a viable one.

Thanks Kellye77.. Im not sure if I am part of a group interview since I was told my interview is from 4:30-5. so compared to the others that have been given a few hours for the interview time im not sure what to expect. I am positive and will just be myself so hope all goes well. By the way were you told over phone or email that your interview was a group one??

Hello Nusingimomma, I was not told either way. The lady called me and said , cograts you have an interview Tues in sac from 2-4. Since it was a 2 hour time lot, I assumed that it will be a group interview... who knows maybe I am wrong!! Ha. I really think that the best advice I have heard is be yourself. I am really outgoing, so I am just going to show that. I am sure you will do great as well. :) I cant believe our interviews are a month after other canidates... hmmmm. Have a happy holiday!

Hey guys. I'll bet Kellye77 has a group interview because of the long time slot (it's equivalent to ours) and Nursingmomma has an individual one. Makes total sense. If you're really curious, you can always call Liza and ask (916-646-2784). She's always been helpful and encouraging in my experience.

Totally be yourself! The group interview was different for me. You might think the exercises are weird or you don't know what to make of the questions. Don't let it knock you off your game. Just trust your instincts and do the best you can. You'll be fine!! :)

Good luck to both of you!! Erik

hello kellye77 and nursingimomma! Congrats on getting interviews and good look to the both of you. Congrats to erik and willmak for getting early acceptance and best of luck to those awaiting their interview results!

Kellye77 looks like we're both in the same interview group on Sept 8th from 2-4. I look forward to meeting you and the rest of the group.

Tim

OMIGOD, you guys! You HAVE to take a look at this thread about ELMSN programs:

https://allnurses.com/nursing-blogs/entry-into-practice-419939-page2.html#post3845077

The posts are getting really good!! One of the posters sent me a private message encouraging me to not worry too much about experienced RNs who blindly bash the ELMSNs. I also spoke to Cindy yesterday while volunteering in the Sutter General ER. (She's an RN who is in the SMU FNP program--and a great resource!) I told her that I (and others on this site) were concerned about how marketable we will be given we will be seeking FNP jobs with relatively little RN experience. Without hesitating, she told me to rest easy. She feels the SMU program does an excellent job preparing ELMS folks to hit the ground running after graduation and said that graduates have no problem finding jobs. Cindy is great. I told her about the post I mentioned above. I hope she weighs in as well! Erik

By the way, folks, if you're interested in jobs offering loan repayment, check out the National Health Service Corps: http://nhsc.hrsa.gov/loanrepayment/

I got a message from an FNP in a Boston urgent care clinic who is receiving $50K toward her loans via this program!!

Hello everyone, I am new to this website and I am hoping I am in the right spot. I interviewed at Samuel Merritt Sacramento campus a couple weeks ago for Spring ELMSN program. I am wondering if anyone has heard anything yet. I could have sworn they said we would hear within three weeks but didn't get a call, e-mail or letter yet. I have assumed this means I didn't get in but am hoping someone can help clarify for me. Did I make up the three weeks notice or is that really what they said? Thanks!

I was interviewed in early August and was lucky enough to be offered early admission (as was WillMak). My understanding, however, is that the admission decisions for the core group of students will not be made until at late as October. Is my memory correct on that anyone? As I suggested to Kellye77, you could give Liza (916-646-2784) a call if you want a read on the process and whether you're still in the running. She's always been nice and responsive in my experience, so I'm sure she would be happy to give you whatever information she's allowed to share. Best of luck to you! Erik

Hey Jsae do not Fret! Most decisions will come out in October. so for now just relax and enjoy all the free time you can soak up!

Hey Jsaenzam- we were probably in the same interview group, August 10th from 10-12? One of the panelist did mention that we would know in three weeks time, but I was pretty suspicious at that time that we would not know by then, which has turned out to be the case. Now that time has gone and September is here I am beginning to fear the mail man and what he is bringing. I know that if you get in you get a call first and then a letter to follow, but if you get denied you get a letter. The wait is just frustrating and I am beginning to question myself and my chances of getting in. I just want to know already.

Hmmm....does anyone here know what the Sacramento Campus has to compete with the human simulation center that the Oakland campus has? They make a really big deal about it in their site about how its a million dollar lab that can offer students a chance to react with dummies that can simulate all sorts of medical conditions. I really wish the Sacramento campus had a Gym and library like the Oakland campus does...where do you normally do your studying Erik?

PS - Is anyone here going to need to move to Sac and need to find roommates?
