Samuel Merritt ELMSN Fall 2009 Interviews!

Published

Hello!

I just received a call to set up an interview for Samuel Merritt's ELMSN-FNP program in Oakland (Fall 2009 cohort)!! I'm super excited!!!!

They want me to come in on February 9th already...so soon! I have been trying to keep up with the posts on this site, but haven't found anything else about Samuel Merritt for this year. Are there any other applicants out there? Has anyone else received an interview?

Yeah, I interviewed in the first set. I think it was early February.

well...maybe it's good news. it doesn't take much to write up a rejection letter. it does take time to put packets together

i hope you are right....it does seem awfully weird that no one has heard of anyone that has gotten an acceptance letter....

just out of curiosity, did EVERYONE go for an interview? I thought I read somewhere that they do not interview everyone. I didn't go in for an interview, but I applied right at the end after talking to a counselor who told me to apply for this year instead of waiting which is what I was going to do. I didn't do great on the NET, but have 10+ years in health care and high GPAs with good letters of reference...so I'm freaking out a bit...

does getting a low NET score automatically disqualify you? I was above what they put down for what you need to get in, so I guess I'm hoping that other factors will count for more than the NET scores will (my experience, my grades, my references, etc)

what do you guys think?

When I went in for the interview, Janet Rowland told me that they interview 88 people, and of those 88 people, they choose 22. She didn't mention anything about anyone NOT getting interviewed. =( I interviewed on March 6th, and she told me to expect to wait 2-3 weeks.

I've heard that they do rejection letters/wait list letters first, and then if you're accepted, they call you. So maybe it's a good sign that we haven't received letters yet? *crosses fingers* good luck everyone!

Wow, they were much more forthcoming with exact figures for your interview than mine. I was interviewed Feb 19 and our ELMSN-FNP interview cohort was only given vague estimates of interviewee numbers. I still have not heard anything -- hoping for the best but trying to mentally prepare myself for the worst and think about ways I can make myself a stronger applicant for next year. I heard there are a whopping 28 spots on the waiting list.

In any case, I'm relieved that our wait is almost over! Limbo is definitely worse...

I was thinking I'm getting a letter later on the list because my last name starts with a Y???

Can I ask where else any of you have applied to?

I'm thinking about applying to their ABSN program for next year...

who was in the interview? I am curious because the counselor I talked to spent about an hour with me going over the program and what it was about, going over my grades and classes, and everything else. since I went in basically at the deadline I'm wondering if that might have been kind of an "interview"

If I get a rejection letter, I plan to apply to ELMSN in Sac later on this year...Lets hope I don't have to... =(

Thats so weird that there might be more spots on the waitlist than actual spots in the program. Maybe my interviewer was exaggerating to scare me...She did a fine job of it! haha

The only two people that were interviewing that day were Fusae Abbott and Janet Rowland. I'm not positive that those are the only two interviewers though...was your counselor Karina?

no, it was Che, she was great and spent a ton of time going over my transcripts, seeing what I needed and going over my grades and GPA and talking a LOT about the program and how it works, what it entails, etc

Jesa, what you're describing is a counseling appointment. They're extremely helpful and can help you present yourself as a strong applicant, but this was not an admissions interview. I think it is strange that you have heard nothing, however, and I suggest you call SMU Monday if you have not received a letter.

Teri and Suzanne, who interviewed the group I was in, designed the ELMSN-FNP group interview and seemed very proud of their creation... to the point where I doubt they would admit a student without subjecting them to this "test" of sorts. There are things they're looking for in the group interview, although even after my interview I couldn't tell you necessarily what qualities those are. I do know that there is no single "ideal candidate," as many people in my group brought different experiences and education to the table. Without a doubt, everyone was impressive and very motivated, regardless of their specific background.

I wish I could apply to the Sac campus, but I can't relocate and the commute would be unbearable given the intensity of the program. :sniff:

Michelle, did you interview for FNP or CM? I ask because Fusae is the program director for case management.. which might explain the differences in our experiences.
