Thank you! Have you been able to access the admitted student portal with the check list in it?

It doesn't seem that the checklist is out yet, nor is the orientation date either.

I just got an email saying I was denied admission for the Summer II program starting in June but two weeks ago I got a letter saying I was accepted for the program and paid my tuition deposit!! Has this happened to anyone else???

@rotananaik I haven't received a second email but I'm sure considering you were able to pay your deposit which means you have a SMURF account, it's a mistake. I'd just call or email the admissions team. I'm sure this is stressful. I'm sorry:/.

Thats really bizarre @rotananaik, keep us updated! Im sure its just a mistake.

That sounds really nerve-wracking, sorry you have to deal with the confusion. Keep tabs with us!

This happened to me in 2022. I applied, got accepted but the link to pay the deposit was broken. I asked- lo and behold someone messed up with marking the applications. Absolutely devastating. Lost some trust issues there LOL

I applied again and eventually got off the waitlist for April 23. Im at the end of my program now and I got played so many times by this school. Trust issues are in hell. It's extremely unorganized and faculty don't talk to each other.

What do you mean by "faculty don't talk to each other"? Could you explain how this leads to disorganization in the program?

One of our professors quit, and we weren't told about it until we asked the week before the course is supposed to start. We asked to be updated and constantly sent the admin emails, and they didn't finalize who was going to teach the course until the night before the course is supposed to start.

Another example is how the April cohort is supposed to have their exit exam on 4/1 at 9am. This was scheduled 2 months ago but guess what. The professor emailed us on 3/31 1pm telling us that it has to be rescheduled bc no one wants to work on a Saturday to proctor us LOL. We were asked to switch up the exam when we all have something scheduled each day of the week bc they gave us hella busy work to do for senior synthesis. We did not receive a formal announcement of a confirmed change until 9pm on 3/31 LOL .

here's an example of them lying to us: the Dean of Nursing told students during a town hall meeting that she will get us into the hospitals for a regular clinical for senior synthesis to replace preceptorships. A student asked if there was a back up plan if this doesn't work and the Dean said no, this plan will work. The next town hall, the Dean tells us there is no preceptorships and we will not be going into the hospitals because the hospitals don't have enough space for every student. Whatever you hear from the admins, don't believe it until it actually happens.

here's an example of admin only caring about themselves: pinning is supposed to be intimate and cohort specific esp since we have never met our cohort together all at once since all of our classes take place over zoom. we already have to share a graduation with every other program at smu. We deserve a cohort specific ceremony when we graduate but no. They decided to combine April, May, and June cohorts into one ceremony on Wednesday May 31st at 12pm.... Wednesday.. they obviously don't care about anyone else's schedule. April already has to wait a whole month to celebrate the end of their ABSN journey. We asked to use our cohort budget to hold our own pinning bc we honestly don't need the admins to be there but they did not allow this bc we need to work on their schedules. Also, the ceremony is being held in Oakland. If we wanted to go to Oakland, we would have applied to that campus. If they cared, they would have planned for the ceremony to be held in San Mateo where our campus is.

here's an example of admin not supporting faculty: one of our professors got into a really bad accident and that professor had to get their own professor friend to lecture us because admin didn't care about finding a sub.

I have so many more examples but I can't think of them RN.. we are literally paying clowns to run the school and I'm not gonna be surprised if it crashes and burns in the next couple of years. Get yourself a therapist, you're gonna be going through an emotional rollercoaster every week and eventually develop trust issues. The word "flexibility" triggers me now.

OMG, I couldn't agree more with all of your accounts and stories about their disorganization. It's the same in the ELMSN program. We stopped believing anything they tell us. Especially when it comes to clinicals. Students who had previous clinical experience already taken from them were promised by Ward-Sullivan multiple times that they would receive priority for their preceptorship! Guess who got preceptorships??? Not us! Others in the cohort who were not on the priority list. How does it happen that the school does not care communicating this to this one person who is in charge of placing us? My classes are started May 1st and we have signed up and paid... however, SMU is stonewalling us on who will be teaching and what time or day of the week. This is extremely difficult for anyone with a job, kids, or any other commitments (I.e doctors appointments etc).
we also had a similar story if no one talking to one another... where the school administration did not tell our professor that her class was happening on Thursdays instead she thought she was going to teach Monday afternoons. By the time they told the students we all have to attend on Mondays, we had already scheduled commitments into our Monday afternoons. It was a big mess.
the amount of lying from the very top of administration is just surreal and it feels like the dumb leading the blind or just pure gaslighting.
I think my ultimate trigger word from this program is "self care"

they preach practicing self care and making it a priority but it is impossible and becomes laughable due to their inadequacies and disrespectful way of treating us students. This is not community college tuition you'll be paying... they will get you into deep debt and are not afraid to fail you and make you retake a class again (thus getting more money from you)
