Awe yay!! Congrats you too!

I just received my acceptance letter for Summer II 2023 ABSN at San Mateo! Good luck everybody!

Congrats everyone!  I received my acceptance to Summer Oakland ABSN June start date.  The email was sent right at 8am with due date to accept position by 3/22.  Good luck to everyone waiting to hear back!

curious as to what everyone's thoughts are about them not having preceptorships or clinical instructors?  Kind of nervous about the disorganization going on lately with the program.  As well as them losing partnership with local hospital because they didn't renew their contract.

I would be nervous about it since the school of nursing is struggling in all of its programs. While it is awesome to be accepted into a program, and it is a huge milestone, I would highly suggest waiting for other schools' acceptance. This school is so expensive, and they give computer simulations instead. This is not what anyone envisioned for their schooling experience. In addition, many of the good professors are leaving as well, leaving us with either inexperienced DNP students or burned-out nurses who now want to teach (but are not educators at heart). Please weigh your options before committing to SMU. Best of luck!

Yes got my acceptance for Oakland too! I'm currently retaking a physiology course at a community college to improve my grade, does anyone know if I drop it mid-semester if it could affect my admission? Now that I've been accepted I don't see a point in finishing it and I'd rather focus on full-time job and family before we start in June.

Good luck to everyone still waiting on their acceptance!

Has anyone who has been accepted been able to pay their deposit yet? I went on yesterday and the June 2023 cohort wasn't available to me in the drop down.

On that same column, go to the bottom half at "Make a Payment," select from a drop-down menu "Summer 2023," and then enter $350.00 manually. You'll receive an email from SMU asking for your student ID number for verification. At least that's what happened to me.
Congratulations and see you in June!?

Thank you! Have you been able to access the admitted student portal with the check list in it?

Just thought I'd share what a recent grad of 2022 ABSN program wrote on Reddit:

I graduated from the ABSN SF peninsula campus about 2.5 months ago. Prior to nursing, I hold another degree, and my previous GPA for that degree is unimpressive (low for most competitive programs out there). I thought I would not be able to get into any competitive programs so I worked hard on the pre-req for SMU's ABSN. I only applied to SMU in CA because of family and financial reasons. I also applied to one other ABSN program out of state because it's a reputable school in my favorite state. I ended up choosing SMU because the other school including housing, insurance, food, and transportation sum up the same as the cost of going to SMU - 80K without financial aid. I have to say the price tag is huge and often time I doubt if it's worth it to pay this much for a BSN degree. However, SMU does carry a name to hospitals in the Bay Area as they know how intense and rigorous the program is to students.

Here are my honest opinions on not attending SMU's ABSN program other than the cost:

1.    the school decided not to offer preceptorships since last Nov so my cohort was severely impacted. Just so you know, employers do ask for your preceptorship experience, and students usually use the experience for networking and meeting requirements for working in specialties such as ICU or ER
2.    my cohort in 2022 only received half of the required in-person clinical rotations. my groups in SF were lucky that we received more in-person clinical hours than other groups so that really depends on your location and the hospital you get placed in
3.    no guarantee to land a new grad RN residency program in the Bay Area right after graduation. I have seen people saying that it's easier than pre-pandemic to land a new grad job in the Bay Area. That's 100% not true. It's brutally competitive to get into the new grad residency programs if you're looking at hospitals like UCSF, Stanford, Kaiser or UC Davis. I am very fortunate to land a new grad RN position in Stanford after 2 months I graduated but most of my classmates in my cohort are still struggling to land a position they want. Most people usually have to wait at least 6 months to land a hospital job.

Some of the suggestions I wish I had known: get a CNA job in a hospital you wish to work for after graduation so you know the manager and apply as an internal applicant
