Samuel Merritt ABSN Spring 2018

Published

Hey guys! I'm new to this forum but has anyone applied for Spring 2018 Cohort yet? I'm not sure if the applications are open yet but that is the cohort that I want to apply to. I will have my BA in Sociology in December 2017 and I am still doing my prerequisites. If you've already applied or are a current student, let me know if you think I'll have a chance at getting in.

Degree: BA in Sociology

Last 60 unit GPA: 3.4 (hoping to raise it to 3.6 by end of year)

Science GPA: 3.5 (still need to do Microbiology & Physiology)

Non-Science: 3.1 (Completed all)

CNA License: Yes

Paid Job Experience: Yes for 1.5 years

*Haven't taken HESi exam yet, but I will this month

Please help, what were your GPA's when you got in and when did you find out you were accepted? Also, if you were ever on the waitlist, when did you finally get accepted?

Hey all, just updating. Was 6th on wait-list and just got acceptance letter! Good luck to all.

Congrats cnawhen!

That's odd, I was placed on the waitlist for San Mateo for 6.0 originally also. I reached out to one of the counselors a couple weeks ago, and he had said I moved one spot to 5.

Hey Scrublife!

I realize I made a mistake earlier - I was originally number 5.0 on the waitlist :p Sorry about the mix-up! Imgur: The magic of the Internet

Hopefully that means you're next! Good luck.

Ahh okay, thanks for clearing that up cnawhen!

Thank you, I hope so!

Hi Everyone!

I am planning to apply to the Fall 2018 cohort for samuel merritt, I was curious if anyone here applied with a science class in progress? I have to finish micro but it will be completed by may but the application for the fall is due in March. I had a counselor tell me I am more than welcome to apply, but she generally suggests all sciences are completed before applying.

Does anyone have any advice for me about that?

Thanks!!

Hi vcamera! I applied with Physiology, Pharmacology and Pathophysiology all in progress. I completed Physio and Pharm about a month and a half (August) after the application deadline (July) and updated my application with an admissions counselor (Kristen was her name) from Samuel Merritt. You need to update your app directly through SMU. Pathophysiology was still in progress by the time I received my acceptance letter in October. Hope this helps and good luck! My first day is today!

Hey danielle2812 ! Thank you SOO much that was extremely helpful! Kristen was the counselor I was in touch with as well she told me she generally recommends students don't apply until all sciences are completed, but that I'm welcome to try. I'll have Micro and Pathophysiology in progress when I apply, so I think I'll give it a shot and if I don't get in this time around, I'll try again for the spring.

Good luck on your first day of Nursing school! :)

Hi all! I applied for the ABSN Summer 2018 Cohort. I am dying to get in! I applied to a couple out of state schools, but SMU is my top choice. I got notified by a university in Kentucky that I was accepted, but I really do not want to move all the way to Kentucky haha. Counting the days until I *hopefully* receive some good news from SMU :)

Hello! I am applying for the Jan 2019 start date, did you get in with micro and patho in progress? Those will be my two in progress as well.

I had patho and pharm in progress when I applied and I got in.

That's very encouraging! Thank you. Fingers crossed. How are you/did you like the program?

I am in my 11 week and it seems like a lifetime! The program is very fast and completely consuming. Schedule/classes change every 5 weeks. We have lost 3 students so far who have not passed. They will try to complete the program with a different cohort. I am doing well and I like the program but I will tell you my stress level is extremely high. Students need to know how to study efficiently and manage time. Grades are based primarily on exams so good test taking skills are a must. I can't believe how much information we have covered in 11 weeks!!! My fellow students are awesome and we definitely bond over the brutal schedule. I am happy with the professors and clinical instructors for the most part. So yes I am happy with it so far I suppose. I do see the upside of a longer not as condensed program as it may not be quite as stressful! Good luck!
