Sample nursing test questions before you get the job

Published

I am going to apply for a RN job but have not taken a test in years. What are some sample questions I can expect on the test

What sort of test are you speaking of?

LPN or Rn test....for example....drug calculations, digoxin, insulin

Does the job application say you have to take a nursing knowledge test? I've never heard of that requirement.

LPN or Rn test....for example....drug calculations, digoxin, insulin

It varies by facility, but here are a few things I can think of that I've been asked (or asked to do):

list 7 rights

drip rate calculations

partial dose calculations (tablets or liquids)

mixing of medication (technique observed by pharmacist)

conversions from ml to oz (or the like)

identify drug classes, uses, side effects, contraindications, etc.

know what can be crushed/halved and what can't

safe handling

That's all I can think of at the moment.

I consistently forget the drip rate calculations, as I never use them ...so that's what I focus on relearning.

It is called a pre-employment test.

Specializes in Med/Surg, LTACH, LTC, Home Health.

There will definitely be a "mcg or mg/kg/lb in a patient who weighs __lbs to determine the starting Heparin drip rate in ml/hr" conversion question...or lovenox dose to give.

Unless HR purposely singles me out, sensing my profound weakness in math.

Is that all they've told you? It may not be a drug test, if so. Some places give personality (battery) tests, too. One place I worked for wouldn't interview or hire anyone who "failed" it.
