Has anyone applied to Samford University Online FNP Fall 2016 Program? Can you share what you have heard about the program, first semester course work load (3 advance courses), and overall input, guidance, and or advice you have been given in order to successfully complete the program.
If you already graduated from Samford Online FNP, tell us about your overall experience, student loans opportunities, total cost of the program, graduation rate as per your own class experience, preparation for Board Exam, and if you found "entry level FNP career opportunity" or not after graduation.
Thank you for your responses, input, and guidance.
Note: You may select multiple choices (if applicable) in the attached "Poll".
I didn't know that we would have to find our own preceptors for Samford. I applied to there and to U of Alabama. (And to UAB, but my genius self looked back to NursingCAS and I sent the rough draft of my statment of purpose. No wonder I got a thanks but no thanks!) So... I guess I'm just biding my time now, praying I get in somewhere for August... Preferably U of A, because it's far more cost effective... But, would happily take Samford, too! :)
Hi!
I also applied to Samford's FNP program. I spoke with someone at the beginning of April and she said they would begin reviewing in 2 weeks. She also said it would take a week or 2 to be notified regarding acceptance status. I thought I would hear something this week.. but no luck! Has anyone else heard anything?
Have not heard anything yet! Have you tried to find clinical sites for your required hours? I have contacted over 15 and no luck! Either they are completely booked or do not want to execute any agreements. I am concern in this regard, as we must find our own Family Practice, Pediatric, and OB/GYN clinical sites & preceptors. How is this issue in your area?
Hello rnvegas2013: Did you do our FAFSA and put Samford etc. as universities that will receive your FAFSA records. In the FAFSA as per you 2015 tax information, you will receive the EFC contribution and loans available etc. If you did not do your FAFSA and or do not qualify for Dept. of Education loans, then once you are accepted to any FNP program / university and receive the letter, you will be provided with the contact person for FA and begin the loan process thereof. I hope this helps! I apply to several FNP programs and have not heard from any of them.

Hello jblakestokes. I also applied to another FNP program; however, part time, and set to start in January 2017. This secondary back up plan, does provide all clinical sites and preceptors, including specialize areas as well. The cost of Samford and my secondary plan is almost the same (i.e. $40K). However, with Samford we must find our own clinical sites/preceptors, and have 3 on campus visits (an extra expense from those of us that live out of state, approximately $1,200, plane, 4 days hotel, & transportation) per trip. I have read various blogs, articles, and heard from other nurses, that nationwide many nurses are unable to find their own clinical sites/preceptors, thus unable to graduate because of incomplete clinical hours in Family Practice, Pediatric, and OB/GYN. Other nurses have described securing clinical sites in places whereby they only complete the hours but do not learn how to be a FNP. Therefore, I decided to call about a dozen primary care clinical sites in my city and was told either they were booked with FNP students and or did not take FNP students at all. Indeed, this is a nationwide mission and epidemic! Because of this fact, I applied to another University that provides all clinical sites/preceptors. With respect to UAB, I have no idea but would like to know from you if they provide you with clinical sites and preceptors? In terms of costs, obtaining quality clinical training sites is priceless! Everyone has to make a sound decision on what is best for them. Please share more about UAB when you can, with respect to clinical sites/preceptors, number of semesters, cost, PT vs. FT, etc. We are here to share and help one another in this process. Thanks for your input.
