Salary of an ADN straight out of school in nyc

Published

Hey im about to start my pre-requisites this spring. Now my plan is to go the 2yr route and get my ADN and then while im working go for my BSN. Then hopefully go back to school to become a CRNA. Now my question is how much does an ADN nurse make straight out of school in nyc? Also i have been hearing that ADN nurses are having a difficult time finding jobs now, is that true? And has anyone gone to agencies for employment. If so how much do they pay

okay i don't know anything about nyc....you may want to try posting in the "region" section under your state...usually you get more specific responses there!

as for being an ADN, usually there is very little pay differential between ADN and BSN nurses (usually 50, 75 cents, the most i've ever heard is a dollar differential per hour). the bigger differences lie in what options you have open to you, meaning if you wanna do management u are probably gonna need a BSN (and possibly an MSN)...there are a kajillion posts on that topic though lol

good luck!!

I don't know what NYC area hospitals are paying these days, but when I graduated in 1990 my first job with the now-defunct Booth Memorial Hospital in Queens (which is still there only under a different name) paid me $37,500 with an ADN on a med-surg ward. I'm sure it's a heckuva lot more now. And at the time they only offered a whopping $1000 a YEAR more for a BSN.

Hey thanks for the info
