That other thread about what nurses make got me thinking....
I saw a lot of people said that they started out anywhere between $16-$22 an hour. Well, I went to salary.com and did a search for what a nurse makes on average in Texas. I got this: average salary
Is this incorrect information? Are there any Texas nurses that can confirm this?
Thanks,
Shelley

I am an RN in Texas, and in my area (panhandle) nurses don't make anywhere near that. I am currently a travel nurse, as there are few jobs in my area, and they are very low paying.
I have heard that hospitals out your way tend to not pay as well... (unfortunately)
I'm in Dallas and I'm wondering if that could be the reason? that I'm in a bigger city?
Yes, the bigger cities do pay more than the rural areas and smaller cities in Texas.

It sounds about right to me for the DFW area anyway. Granted I work nights and more weekends than not (my choice) so that adds some due to differentials.
Phew! Thank you very much for your response. :)

I am a travel RN working nights in the DFW area. I always take into consideration that my housing is paid for also. So with that in mind, I would estimate my annual income to be around 75K for 40 hr a week. Overtime will increase that, of course.
Thank you! I have actually thought about becoming a travel RN someday... after some years of experience under my belt first though!
