Sacramento and Mercy General Hospital

I am considering a job offer in Sacramento at Mercy General Hospital in the ER. This offer is somewhat coming out of the blue, and I need some help with anyone who lives in Sacramento.

Is there anything about the MGH ER that I need to know before I run blindly into it?

The hospital itself seems to be in a fairly nice neighborhood, but it seems expensive. Where are the best places in Sacramento to live to be safe (two young children) and fairly quiet? Some important things for us: we don't want an ancient house, we want sidewalks in the neighborhood. Near a mall would be great. Near Costco even greater. We don't want to go too far from the Hospital. Preferably somewhere that we can find a 3 bedroom house to rent in the 12-1600 range.

What kind of heat is it in the summer? It is hard to tell based on the humidity graphs we have found.

If anybody has any suggestions or ideas for getting by in Sacramento, please get back to me ASAP, as I will probably accept this offer baring anything unforeseen.

The other thing I need help with is what I need to do ahead of time if I am going to get a walk-through Cali license. I have already paid the money for the national licensure web page to verify my current license, but what else needs to be done prior to heading down there?

The temperature in the summer is often above 100F, but the humidity is low. There is no rain during summer time.

Yes, you are right, the neighborhood around the hospital is one of the best.

I worked for Mercy San Juan, good hospital to work for. I know they have a trauma center. Mercy General is in downtown Sac. Sacramento can be hot & humid for summers, high as 105, low as 30s in winter. Its an in between place from SF & S.lake tahoe. I came from Bay area, Sac is for young/middle aged families & has affordable housing.

Anyways, Im actually renting out my house in Anatolia, about

What a great offer! The area around "East Sac," also known as "the Fabulous 40's" (for 40th st and above) is safe and beautiful - wait until you see those houses during the holidays- the lights are awesome. A good friend of mine who's an NP just bought a more modest house in the area, and she loves it. McKinley park is great for kids- lots of ducks, geese, and roses.

You need central air. Don't be fooled. It gets 100+ in the summertime. Costco is off of 16th (aka 160) and is really easy to get to/from, once you know the one-way streets and the name changes, so most of the time you're only 10 minutes from Costco anyway. Seriously easy.

I loved living in midtown, and I loved living in the 40's area even more. If you can find a place in the 40s-50s, take it. Awesome spot. Of course, the closer to 80 you are in that area, the less desirable. Mercy's in a great spot- anywhere around that is fantastic. It's really easy to get around in Sac, and parking is very manageable (especially in relation to living in SF!). A Trader Joe's, SaveMart, Safeway, etc are all close by. The American River Bike trail is great for riding bikes, since there are no cars (access it by CSU Sac- it's easy).

Great spot. Congratulations!

How much experience would one expect to have to live around the sacramento area? I grew up in northern california and absolutely love the area. The hospital that I work for in so. cal is owned by CHW which I believe owns several of the hospitals in the sacramento area so I'm hoping to just put in for a transfer eventually. I am considering this now because my house may be in foreclosure soon, and since renting would be our only option anyway, I'm considering taking the chance to go home.

Thanks.
