I love the Sacramento area. Mild weather most of the year, fairly close to both the beach and the mountains, and richly diverse communities.
Yes, there's a VA hospital--it's called Mather Medical Center, I think, or something like it.
It's true that UC Davis Medical Center doesn't have CNAs, and very, very few LVNs. The nurses do all the bedside care, unless they happen to have a student extern around. I think it's a great place--very busy. You might also look at the Mercy hospitals (Catholic Healthcare West).
When I read about UC Davis losing their Magnet status I read between the lines. The ANCC that awards the Magnets is part of the American Nurses Association. And the union at Davis is the California Nurses Association--not a good combination. Did the union mess things up so the Magnet would be pulled? Or did the ANCC pull the Magnet because of CNA? Interesting stuff.

hi, just wanted to hear some opinions about hospitals in the davis/sacramento area, might be moving out there in a few months. I have been working on a tele/stepdown floor for almost a year now. I am interested working on a different type of floor (maybe an ICU) especially if I can find a good unit with nice people (I guess that is the trick isn't it?).
Is there a VA hospital in sacramento? I have heard terrible stuff about med/surg floors at VA hospitals but the higher pay and longer vacations are appealing. I am also interested in UCDavis but I have read that they don't have CNA's at all. Is this true? thanks
